What a week on The Young and the Restless…er…ok, what a three days on The Young and the Restless when everyone from Ashley to the Newman grandchildren found mud to sling.

Seen and not heard

For anyone who has been worrying that Nick forgot he had a son, fear not, Christian was found. Or so we were lead to believe. No, we still haven’t seen living proof, but we can trust Nick, usually.

So Nick came into the new ranch house for Thanksgiving (and is it just me, or wouldn’t you like to have that happen for real? When he’s not around Sharon, the guy knows how to enter a room), and aside from bearing holiday cheer, he said that Christian was down with Katie and Johnny, getting muddy at the barn.

Later, when Connor showed up, he skipped off to find his cousins. For a moment there, I thought we were going to have some sort of accident happen, or a near-one, to add some drama to the episode, but nope. We’ll save someone falling into the well for another day.

At least we know where Christian is, and maybe when we do get to see him next, presuming that’ll happen, he’ll have an amazing case of SORAS and a storyline to go with it.

Hi, Wound, I’m Salt. Nice to meet you.

So Billy got up extra early to go to Chancellor, clear out his desk, and pack up his dreams, and Nikki apparently got up at the crack of dawn to beat him to it.

Her coming early was one thing, but she could have politely waited for him to finish and given Claire a tour of the place. Instead, she told Billy that he didn’t need to do it himself, she’d get someone to box it up and ship it to him. In other words, no closure for you, BillyBoyAbbott, and don’t let the door hit your butt on the way out. To quote Phyllis, “That was cold, even for Nikki.”

Didn’t even matter that Claire was there for a front-row seat. Nikki unnecessarily poured salt in Billy’s proverbial wound by sneering that his mommy didn’t like his work. But Billy clapped back pretty well, and bringing up Lily was a nice touch. Claire had to scrape the dust out of her teeth, her jaw hit the ground so hard when she found out that her grandparents were ruthless corporate badasses, and she was in every bit of the type of environment her parents warned her about.

“I accept!” Claire quickly said to no one. She happily took on the job, and I’m not sure if she can’t wait to be just like them or if she’s still in some sort of Pollyanna dreamland and wants to rewrite the Chancellor employee handbook.

Yes, I'm still wondering if Claire has really done a 180 and is as sweet and somewhat innocent as her cousin Faith, but with Jordan in town and about to bump into her, it’ll test that theory soon. And even if she really has cut off contact with her crazy aunt, jumping back into the corporate world might bring back out that cutthroat snark, if not just plain ol’ dastardly, villainous behavior that we all know is still lurking inside that girl.

And can we stop with the pretense that Kyle has gone from vengeful rage 24/7 to Mr. Rogers? When he’s around Claire, he’s been turning into a soft-spoken, meeker version of himself. He walked into the house for Thanksgiving wearing a cardigan that matched Claire’s plain brown, neutral dress…and even I was hoping that Summer would come to shake things up.

Chummer or Skyle

Speaking of Summer, are her and Chance done? Or was that just a pause until he pulled his head out of his butt? I hope they’re over. At one point, Chummer was a good thing, and Chance was a great influence on her. Summer as a younger version of Phyllis made for a great, daring, hot-headed force to be reckoned with, but all that Red energy while not being a murderous homewrecker with no points on her driver's license wasn’t quite as fun to watch as the Summer that was immature, selfish, stubborn, and a little annoying.

Now that she has matured and is getting along with Kyle, who supposedly also turned a new leaf, they can only take one of two routes: Kyle and Summer cheat, fall back in love, and become responsible adults, parents, spouses, and executives...or they go back to being themselves.

You can change the outfit but it’s still the real Summer in there. And she doesn’t hate Claire, but she probably doesn’t want her living her life, either. Claire heading to being Harrison’s step-mom while Summer is single and miserable about it? Probably not a good mix.

I have no doubt that Summer will lure Kyle away from Claire, even if she doesn’t want him long-term, but enough to make trouble. But will he stop that or go along with it? But better yet, will that be the catalyst for Claire to snap out of it and be fierce again? The soothing, obsessed with being the savior routine is getting old and, frankly, has no place in the Newman family. If she’s going to be a Newman, she had better get with the program, or she’ll be riding the fence for the rest of time, like her uncle Nick.

Oh, Nicholas, what are you doing? Okay, granted, he’s probably right, and this whole thing with Sharon will end in or out of court with Michael proving that Sharon wasn’t in her right state of mind when she framed Daniel. And by then, they’ll have evidence that Sharon couldn’t have been the one to kill Heather because of her height or strength or how the object hit Heather, etc. Some sort of forensics (or, a security camera recording that Chance never bothered to look at yet) will clear her of being the murderer.

But Nick makes it a full-time job to defend and protect Sharon. And despite Sharon spending all of her waking and sleeping hours dreaming of being with Nick, she won’t be. Even if Nick wanted a relationship with her, she’d just get caught up with Adam or something instead. The two of them have sabotaged each other and themselves for 30 years, and it’s not going to stop now. The best they'll be is friends with no benefits, but even that isn’t sustainable if Nick ever plans to get a girlfriend.

And on that note, I know it was just a hey, how ya doin’ type of convo, but at the ranch on Thanksgiving, Nick asked Chelsea if she and Adam were together. If Nick and Chelsea are both available, is that going to be a thing? Will Nick and Chelsea get closer while he tries to keep Adam away from Sharon? Nick’s frustration could translate into reminding Chelsea of how Adam is and why she should stay away. Likewise, Nick and Chelsea spending time together would get Adam’s goat, and he’d do something stupid to retaliate…like sleep with Sharon.

Sarcasm becomes her

Thanksgiving at the Abbott’s got off to a rocky start. Just when Ashley was being grateful for never having to deal with Diane again, she found out she was going to break bread with her. And the jabs didn’t let up.

Before and during dinner, Ashley was throwing so much shade at Diane that she almost got offered a Two Scoops column. Ashley wasn’t even home for the big show, all the acts and public displays of outrage that Traci had to witness, and with her new boyfriend in tow, no less. But while it wasn’t necessarily warranted, it was fun to watch, and some of those one-liners were stellar.

Waking up to a nightmare

In the hospital, Phyllis woke up to a landslide of information and she was not over it this week. From Michael defending Sharon, to Nick still backing her up, Phyllis was done with all y’all in Genoa City.

Billy coming in and semi-sorrying for not believing her about Sharon was cute, but going to Phyllis when he was down was about as being real for Billy as it gets. Phyllis had come to him and begged him to be there for her when she needed him most, and he oh-so-coldly said nope, and needed to put himself first. But she couldn’t slap him or run from her hospital bed, so he knew he had an attentive audience to complain about his life. He made a good call pointing out that Phyllis hates Victor as much as he does, but asking her to team up to take their frustrations out on Victor was a surprise. Neither have anything else going on in their lives now, so why not spend their time thinking of a revenge plot for the Moustache, right? Honestly, I’m not even caring what the storyline is, I just like Phyllis and Billy together. There’s some good banter there when they’re on point.

Piecing it together

So now that Sharon’s on the hook for Heather’s murder, people know that they can’t leave anything up to chance — or Chance. Esther kindly pointed out that even though Sharon ripped her a new one for offering some tea to chill out, she did witness Sharon having a gentle conversation with Daniel. And for some reason, that meant to Esther that it seemed unlikely that Sharon’s mood swings would go in the other direction, and she would have killed Heather after talking to Daniel. Lost me on that one, Esther, but it wouldn’t be the first time.

Faith said her mom told her she was going to stand her ground with Phyllis once and for all. But also revealed that the phone was missing when the texts to Phyllis were sent. So maybe Faith was helpful for a change? And then there’s Mariah who gets the quote of the week.

When talking about the car crash and whether or not Sharon was involved, Nick shared that Phyllis had texts from Sharon inviting her over so she could confess. And Mariah said dead seriously that it was hard to believe Sharon would confess to someone she hated and didn’t trust. If that sounds familiar, it’s because it was the same thing that Sharon wanted everyone to believe last week, but with the shoe on the other foot.

How many times did Phyllis (and us!) ask, “Why would Heather tell Sharon the intimate details of her relationship?” when Heather and Sharon didn’t like or trust one another? Now, that’s the reason not to believe her confession, either?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the main house would like a word. Everyone is still acting like Sharon doesn’t do destructive things when off her meds (like burn down homes), yet that’s the same reason they want to defend her and plead not guilty. It’s a wonder Phyllis isn’t in the hospital with whiplash for how many times they've made her head spin trying to defend Sharon, even with a confession.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and got some deals on Black Friday. Until next time!
