On The Young and the Restless, Cameron Kirsten was Sharon Newman’s worst nightmare. About 20 years ago, Sharon had left town to find herself and happened to meet Cameron in a bar. After a night of drinking, they wound up in her motel bed, but immediately afterward, Cameron began physically abusing Sharon. When he fell asleep, Sharon escaped and went back to Genoa City.
However, Cameron was obsessed. He came to Genoa City about a year later to do business with Newman Enterprises. It didn’t take long for Cameron to threaten Sharon that he would tell Nick about their night of passion if Sharon didn’t give him what he wanted.
After a New Year’s Eve party, Cameron got Sharon to meet him at a motel, where he attacked her again. While trying to fight him off, Sharon cracked a champagne bottle over Cameron’s head, and she thought she'd killed him. Sharon dragged his body behind an alley Dumpster and left him for dead.
Unconscious but not deceased, Cameron awoke and swore revenge. Wearing makeup to look ghost-like, Cameron “haunted” Sharon, appearing when no one else could see him in windows and her home. Sharon thought she was going insane.
How did Cameron die on The Young and the Restless?
Eventually, Cameron revealed that he was alive, but he continued to plague Sharon’s life. He framed her for the murder of Cassie’s biological dad, Frank Barritt, then offered to help her escape charges by whisking her off to an island that he owned. However, Nick was hiding on the jet. After Nick and Sharon parachuted to safety, Cameron went to prison for 20 years.
Once released decades later, Cameron tortured Sharon’s life some more and eventually kidnapped Faith. With the help of Chance and Nick, Faith was rescued, but Sharon had to fatally stab Cameron in the chest.
How is Cameron back on The Young and the Restless?
The Young and the Restless viewers have been watching Sharon’s recent struggles with reality. Triggered by stressful events and going off her bipolar medication, Sharon has been hallucinating and talking to Cameron’s ghost.
Bloodied and haggard, Cameron looks the way he did the last time Sharon saw him on The Young and the Restless. He has been bluntly telling her that she needs to deal with her traumas and keeps making her confront the issues she’s been trying to bury deep inside her.
At first, Cameron’s presence seemed to make Sharon face her fears. However, since her daughter Faith was in a near-fatal car accident, Cameron has shifted to focusing on Sharon’s inner rage and encouraging her to be angry and vengeful.
Although Cameron has explained to Sharon that he is only a figment of her imagination and his words are actually her thoughts, Sharon seems to be taking direction from him, leading some to wonder if he will instruct her to kill.
