Sharon decided to spend New Year’s Eve at Society with her family. After Ian overheard Tessa making New Year’s Eve plans with Mariah, he and Jordan put their plan into motion. Jordan chloroformed Sharon and held her unconscious, bound, and gagged in a hotel room. Ian drugged Tessa’s water, and she nearly passed out in his arms while struggling to breathe. Mariah was horrified when she discovered Ian tending to Tessa. Nick called the police to arrest Ian, but the officer confirmed that Ian’s story about being released from prison was legitimate. Nick, Mariah, and Faith panicked when Sharon never showed up at Society. Mariah vowed to keep her family safe. Victor made a call to have Ian found. With Danny snowbound in Canada, Christine returned to Genoa City solo and joined the Baldwins and Abbotts at the jazz club to ring in the new year. Daniel and Lucy were placed under police protection. Phyllis promised Daniel and Summer that she’d bite her tongue to resist spoiling the evening, but she reached her breaking point when Danny made a surprise appearance and reunited with Christine. Phyllis left the party and went for a drive alone, during which she remembered an older woman with wavy hair had been driving the truck that had run her off the road. Phyllis pledged to make her children proud by letting go of her obsession over Sharon and her preoccupation with Danny and Christine’s relationship. Jordan and Ian plotted to kill Sharon, dump her body in the same place Sharon had left Heather’s, and frame Phyllis for the murder. Ian envisioned playing a father figure role and consoling a distraught Mariah after Sharon’s demise. Jordan warned that her trust in Ian was wearing thin, but he anticipated that making inroads with Mariah would pave the way for Jordan to get closer to Claire. Danny apologized to Daniel for not returning to town sooner and promised to always be there for his son. Michael worried that his and Phyllis’ friendship wouldn’t survive his serving as Sharon’s attorney. Michael forgave Diane for keeping him in the dark about her staged breakup with Jack. Jack appealed to Lauren to give Diane another chance. Claire celebrated her first New Year’s Eve as a Newman with Nikki and Victor at the ranch. Claire later joined Kyle, who’d spent the holiday nursing a sick Harrison, and they began the new year by making love.
