The Young and the Restless spoilers, April 17: Victor stands his ground against the Abbotts

What to expect on The Young and the Restless

The longest-running feud in Genoa City is the one between Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and the Abbott clan — especially, Victor's feelings for Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). These days, Victor has focused his attention on Jack's son Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor), who is dating his newfound granddaughter Claire (Hayley Erin), formerly Eve. Victor doesn't feel that Kyle and Claire should be together. Ironically, he appears to be less squeamish about his other granddaughter, Summer (Allison Lanier), and her feelings for Kyle.

Now, Victor has enlisted the services of Audra Charles (Zuelyka Silver). He's hoping she can cause trouble in Kyle's life, which will extricate him from Claire's life. You'd think Victor might remember at this time that he's only alive because of Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland). She signed off on a dying Victor receiving the heart of her brain-dead daughter, Colleen (Tammin Sursok). Still, Victor wants what Victor wants.

A Little Diddy About Jack and Diane

Jack and Diane (Susan Walters) are stronger than ever. They've gotten past Jack keeping Diane in the dark about nefarious Martin (who was posing as Alan — both played by Christopher Cousins). Jack explained that he only stayed silent about Martin because Traci (Beth Maitland) wanted him to — plus, he didn't want to endanger Diane.

These two are a formidable power couple in Genoa City, which is good because they're constantly on guard around Victor. Or, at least, they should be! On Thursday, watch for the couple to plan a defense so that they can keep their family intact.

Nikki Newman: Peacemaker

Victor's most vulnerable spot in life is his wife Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). He adores her and wants her to be happy. Victor has moved heaven and earth to protect Nikki; they've married more times than we can remember.

So, it falls upon Nikki to play peacemaker. She is the only person who can most likely keep Victor in line. On Thursday, watch for Nikki to make every effort to keep the peace with those around her. We've already seen her take a lunch meeting with Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman), and then, deftly try to look out for Michael's well-being. But can she truly keep the peace if it involves coming into conflict with Victor?
