At the Abbott mansion, Diane explained to Kyle that her rift with Jack had been a ruse to convince everyone they’d been at war with one another. Kyle was stunned that his parents’ loud, angry fights in public had all been a show. Jack confirmed that it had all been an act to save Kyle.
Jack asked Claire for privacy, but Kyle invited her to stay. Claire noted that it was a family matter, and she went upstairs to make sure Harrison was still asleep. “Save me. From what?” a skeptical Kyle spat. “From Victor,” Jack replied. “And yourself,” Diane added.
Kyle asserted that he could handle himself with Victor, and Diane pointedly asked how that had worked out. Jack argued that the more Kyle worked with Victor, the deeper Victor sunk his claws into him, and Victor was a cunning and dangerous man. Diane hoped that night had opened Kyle’s eyes to how manipulative Victor could be since Victor had only been using Kyle to try to hurt Jack.
Jack reasoned that it had taken extreme measures to show Kyle the truth. Diane cried that it had broken her heart to be that awful to Kyle.

Diane described how difficult it had been to keep up the lie and hide her love for Kyle and Jack. Kyle snapped that she’d done a “damn good job” because her lashing out at him had seemed to happen naturally. Diane countered that Kyle hadn’t had a problem hitting back, and it hadn’t been easy for her to take, knowing he hadn’t been pretending.
Jack stressed it had all been part of the plan. Diane defended that she’d had to make sure Kyle believed her. “Well, bravo! You succeeded,” Kyle growled, adding that it had stirred up all the old feelings from when she’d massively betrayed him before. Diane acknowledged that she’d never be able to make up for abandoning him, and she’d live with that regret for the rest of her life. “You and me both,” Kyle snarled.
Diane regretted how she and Jack had handled their problems with Kyle at Jabot, but she maintained that she’d needed to do something after Kyle had undermined her. Kyle grumbled that she’d fired the son she claimed to love. Diane swore she loved Kyle from the bottom of her heart. Jack and Diane reiterated that they’d gone to such extremes to save Kyle from Victor’s corrupt influence. Kyle didn’t see how putting him on an emotional rollercoaster had saved him.
Diane explained that Kyle hadn’t been able to see Victor’s motives, so she and Jack had devised their plan to force Victor to reveal his true intentions. Diane added that Victor had needed to believe she and Jack had split so he’d take the bait when she approached him about firing Kyle and hiring her to seek revenge. Kyle recounted that Victor had immediately ratted her out. Diane divulged that it had been a test to see if she’d break, but she hadn’t, and Victor’s final test for her had been to fire Kyle on the spot at Abby’s wedding.
Jack warned that Victor didn’t care about Glissade or want Kyle to succeed. Kyle doubted that Victor had invested money in the company just to watch it fail. Jack contended that Victor had known the best way to hurt Jack was for Jack to lose his son to Victor. Jack continued that it had never been about Kyle and all about Victor’s need to pay Jack back. Kyle questioned why his parents had let him suffer not only from their ruse but also from another humiliating public firing.
Diane asked how else she and Jack could have convinced Kyle to believe them over Victor, and Jack stated that the only way to save Kyle had been to let him fail. Jack continued that it had only been a game Victor had been playing with no intention of Kyle ever winning. Jack thanked God that Kyle was out from under Victor’s thumb, so Victor could never hurt Kyle again. Kyle wondered what would have happened if Jack and Diane’s plan hadn’t worked.
Diane proclaimed that she’d been ready to sacrifice everything to keep Kyle from falling prey to Victor. Kyle scoffed at her suddenly becoming the protective mother again, and he asked what had happened to wanting it all. Diane conceded that there had been some truth to what she’d said, but she would give it all away if she had to. Jack hoped Kyle could forgive them in time after he realized they’d done it out of love. Claire returned, and Kyle suggested they get out of there.
After Kyle and Claire left, Jack expected that it might take Kyle a while to understand Jack and Diane’s motives. Diane worried that she’d caused permanent damage since Kyle had said some hurtful things when they’d been fighting. Jack argued that things had just been said in the heat of the moment, but Diane recognized that she’d given Kyle reason to lash out at her. Diane was saddened by how wounded Kyle still was from her abandonment of him, and it was obvious he hadn’t healed and moved on.
Jack encouraged Diane to remember why Kyle had said those painful words – because they’d intentionally forced him to that point for a reason. Diane referred to the vicious arguments she and Jack had staged for show, but she thought they’d felt real. Jack assured her that there had been no hidden anger, and he apologized if he’d taken the act too far. Diane fretted that maybe they’d been too convincing, and they’d lost Kyle, anyway. Jack thought Kyle would eventually see that Victor had used him and that there had been no other way to convince Kyle of Victor’s real motives, although they’d still have to repair the damage from the anger Kyle had felt before Victor had pulled him in.
Jack cooed that he’d hated being apart from Diane, and it had seemed to go on forever. Diane mused that he’d been in her dreams, and every night, she’d gone to bed alone. Jack claimed he’d had a few himself. She wished the dreams had comforted her, but they had only made the separation more painful when she woke up. Jack gushed that being apart had made him realize he loved her more than the day he’d married her, and they kissed.
At Society, Kyle groaned that he felt completely blindsided, and he didn’t know what to think or how to feel because he was totally numb. He asked how Claire felt about learning that her grandfather was spiteful and vengeful. Claire figured that she’d known about Victor’s ruthless business history and decades-long feud with Jack, but it had been a shock to see it up close and personal. She insisted it wasn’t about her because she hadn’t been used in the scheme, and all that mattered was how Kyle felt. Claire asked if Kyle accepted that his parents had done it all for him.
Kyle believed his parents’ fights and breakup had been a big show because there had been no other reason for them to admit it. Kyle realized that working for Victor had been a colossal mistake, but his problems with his parents had started before Victor had entered the picture. Kyle stated that he was nowhere near ready to forgive how Jack and Diane had treated him. Claire urged him to consider what they’d been willing to do for him, and she imagined it was hard to carry around the anger. She considered it time to let go of his resentment.
At Memorial Hospital, Elena informed Daniel and Summer that Phyllis’ condition was stable, but Phyllis hadn’t yet responded to the doctors’ attempts to get her to regain consciousness. Elena continued that they’d conducted a neurological exam and were running blood tests, and a neurologist was on the way. Daniel remarked that it sounded serious. Elena promised they’d know more when the results were in, and she assured them that Phyllis was in good hands.
After Elena stepped out, Summer wondered if involving a neurologist meant Phyllis had brain damage. Daniel pointed out that they still didn’t know what had happened, but he thought Nick and Chance should have been there by then. Summer relayed that Chance had told her Phyllis had run off the road and crashed into a tree. Daniel contemplated the possibility it hadn’t been an accident.
Chance arrived, and Summer reported they were still waiting to hear about Phyllis’ condition. Summer asked where her dad was, and Chance said he was surprised because Nick had left the accident site before he had. Chance shared that when they’d gotten to the scene, Phyllis’ car had been on fire, and he and Nick had pulled an unconscious Phyllis out. Daniel inquired about how it had happened. Chance revealed that Phyllis had hit a tree at high speed, and tire marks indicated that another car might have forced her off the road, but the other driver hadn’t stopped. Daniel surmised it had been intentional.
Chance maintained that they didn’t know exactly what had happened yet, and the accident might not have been deliberate. Chance speculated that the other driver had just panicked and driven off. Summer noted that the accident had been on the highway near the ranch, and Daniel pointed out that it had occurred close to Sharon’s house. Chance urged them not to jump to conclusions. Elena returned and advised that a nurse would soon be there to take Phyllis to get a CT scan. Summer and Daniel told Phyllis they’d be waiting for her when she returned. Summer pleaded with her mother to open her eyes.
At the cottage, Sharon asked Nick if it was time to call Chance, but Nick remained silent. “You hate me now, don’t you?” she wailed, and she begged him to say something. Sharon knew it was hard for Nick to believe that she’d done those horrible things because it was hard for her to believe it herself. She insisted that she couldn’t live with the guilt and fear anymore, and she’d had to tell someone even though it would probably destroy her relationship with Nick.
Sharon swore she’d never meant to do any of those things, and Heather’s death had been an accident. She explained that she’d pushed Heather, but she’d never tried to kill her, and she’d panicked when she’d woken up and realized Heather was dead. Sharon sobbed that she’d been sick inside ever since, and she’d wanted to say something and let it all out, but her subconscious and Cameron had talked her out of it by warning her of the consequences.
Sharon swore that she hadn’t covered up Heather’s death to save herself; rather, she’d done it for her kids to prevent them from finding out their mother had killed an innocent woman. Sharon bemoaned that it had to stop since she’d almost killed another person that night. She expressed relief that the truth was out, even though she knew what it meant for her. Sharon requested that Nick call Chance so she could finally put it to rest once and for all. “Would you stay with me when Chance puts me under arrest?” she asked.
Nick refused to believe Sharon had done the things she’d just confessed to since the woman he knew would never intentionally hurt anyone. Sharon maintained that she’d done it, but Nick theorized that her medication still wasn’t right, and it was causing her mind to play tricks on her. Sharon was adamant that Daniel needed to stop suffering, and she admitted that she’d planted the evidence in his apartment for the police to find. She recalled that Daniel had begged her for the truth, but she’d denied everything and blamed Phyllis for poisoning his mind with her accusations.
Sharon lamented that Phyllis was unconscious in the hospital because nobody had believed her, but everything Phyllis had accused Sharon of was true. Nick struggled to believe it. Sharon whimpered that she was sorry she was putting him and their kids through it, but Daniel had sent his daughter away and had been arrested for murdering the woman he’d loved, and she had to right what she’d done wrong. Nick agreed that keeping quiet wouldn’t be fair to Daniel and Lucy. Nick called Chance and summoned him to Sharon’s house, citing an urgent situation.
Chance told Summer and Daniel that Nick had called and he had to leave. Daniel asked if it had to do with the accident and if Sharon had been involved. Chance ordered Daniel to stop jumping to conclusions, and he promised they’d be the first to know when he had news. After Chance left, Daniel recounted that his mom had been on a mission to prove Sharon had murdered Heather, and Sharon had been caught searching Phyllis’ hotel room for the incriminating evidence Phyllis had claimed to have. Daniel found it suspiciously coincidental that Phyllis had been run off the road near Sharon’s house.
Elena informed Daniel and Summer that Phyllis would be back shortly. Elena reported that Phyllis hadn’t regained consciousness yet, but they’d determined that she suffered a contrecoup injury that had happened when her brain had struck the opposite side of the skull after impact. Elena indicated that there wasn’t much more they could do than stabilize and monitor Phyllis, and it was a matter of watching and waiting.
Later, Daniel and Summer sat by Phyllis’ bedside. Summer hoped Phyllis could hear them. Summer called Phyllis the most fearless woman she’d ever known, and she was sure Phyllis would get through it. Daniel praised Phyllis for never letting anyone hold her down for long, and she always beat the odds. He added that he loved and needed her since he couldn’t deal with another loss. Daniel vowed not to bury someone else they loved.
Meanwhile, Faith arrived home and noticed Sharon’s stricken expression. Sharon stammered that she needed to change clothes before Chance got there, and she asked Nick to tell Faith what was going on and not hold back. After Sharon headed upstairs, Faith mentioned that Mariah had called to tell her there had been an accident nearby. Faith observed that her mom had clearly been crying, and she demanded to know why they were waiting for Chance.
Mariah stopped by because she hadn’t been able to reach Sharon and wanted to make sure she was okay. Faith shared that their mom was upstairs and upset about something, and Nick had been about to tell her why. Nick shared that Sharon had just confessed to killing Heather. Mariah and Faith were in disbelief, but Nick told them Sharon’s description of the evening had been frighteningly detailed. Faith protested that it wasn’t true.
Nick considered whether Sharon’s actions had been linked to the problems she’d been having with her medication since she’d also been having blackouts. Nick doubted that Sharon knew what she was doing, so nothing had been premeditated, even if she was guilty. Faith realized her mom was planning to turn herself in, and she exclaimed that there was no way Sharon had killed anyone. Faith blamed Phyllis for making Sharon feel paranoid and delusional.
Faith blasted Phyllis for torturing Sharon into confessing. Nick lectured not to point fingers, especially with Phyllis in the hospital. Chance arrived and wondered why Nick wasn’t with Summer. Sharon descended the stairs, and Faith tearfully begged her mom to tell her it wasn’t possible. Sharon apologetically replied that as horrible as it sounded, it was all true.
Chance asked someone to tell him “what the hell” was going on. Sharon admitted that Phyllis was right and that Sharon had framed an innocent Daniel. Sharon firmly insisted that the D.A. drop the charges against Daniel and arrest her for the murder of Heather Stevens.
