At Nate’s apartment, Nate, Devon, and Lily toasted to celebrate Lily closing a difficult deal for Winters. Lily inquired about the latest with Amy and Damian, and Nate reported that mother and son were having dinner that night. Nate hoped Damian stuck around so he could have his own talk with his brother. Nate was shocked when Lily informed him that she’d had Damian investigated.

Lily shared that Damian had seemed very interested in seeing her again, and she’d wanted to find out if there was more to his story. Nate griped that he hadn’t wanted her to go digging into his brother’s background. Lily divulged that Damian had led Nate to believe he owned the companies he was involved with, but Damian and the person or people above him had gone to great lengths to keep the real owner quiet. Lily continued that the owner was Arabesque, a company that operated out of Washington, DC, and was privately owned by Aristotle Dumas.

Devon recognized Dumas’ name, but he thought no one even knew what Aristotle looked like. Lily wondered what else Damian was hiding. Nate questioned why Denise hadn’t discovered that Damian’s overnight success was a lie. Lily claimed that the facts had been buried under a lot of legal paperwork, and Nate asked how she’d found out. Lily reluctantly shared that she’d called in a favor to Victor.

Nate became incensed, but Lily assured him that she’d told Victor it was just a background check for Winters. Lily recalled that it had felt like Damian was hiding something every time she’d met with him. Nate demanded to know how many times she’d met up with his brother. Lily recounted that she’d told Damian he should forgive his mother, and he’d agreed to meet with Amy if Lily had dinner with him. Lily insisted that she’d done it for Nate, but Nate barked that it hadn’t been her place to jump in.

Nate lectured that it was all about having Amy and Damian make peace before she died, and Lily might have messed that up. Nate worried that Damian would get angry and leave town if he found out about Lily’s investigation. Nate added that no amount of investigating would change the fact he and Damian were brothers. Nate testily asked Lily to respect his boundaries because he didn’t need her help.

Nate apologized for being so hard on Lily, but he stressed that his goal was to make things right for Amy and not do anything to scare Damian off. Nate intended to give his brother the benefit of the doubt. Devon swore that he and Lily wanted things to work out for Amy and Damian, and he implored Nate to tell them what he needed. Nate requested that they do nothing and leave it alone.

Over dinner at the Athletic Club, Amy said it meant a lot that Damian had agreed to see her again. Damian ordered two cups of chamomile tea, remembering that it was Amy’s favorite. He warned her not to make too much out of it, since they were a long way from fixing things between them. Amy assured him that she had no expectations. She declared that if there was even the slightest chance they could mend the hurt between them, she could die a happy woman.

Amy smiled as she remembered Figaro, the cat she and Damian had both tried to hide from Jackson. Amy and Damian recalled that they’d both expected Jackson to lose it when Figaro had gotten out and jumped on Jackson’s lap, but Figaro had become Jackson’s cat from that moment on. Amy said Damian had been Jackson’s world, and they’d had an unbreakable bond. Amy recounted that Jackson had been the first person to hold baby Damian, and she’d never forget the look of pure love on Jackson’s face.

Amy shared that she had thought about telling the truth about Damian’s paternity many times because the secret had weighed on her, but Jackson had been so overjoyed about the pregnancy that she hadn’t been able to do it. Amy reasoned that it would have dropped a bomb on two families if she’d told the truth, so she’d carried the secret with her. She admitted that while she’d been sad when Nathan had died, a burden had also been lifted, and she’d expected the truth to die with her.

Amy explained that something had changed within her when she’d received her cancer diagnosis, and she hadn’t wanted Damian to be alone in the world when she knew he had family. She recognized that Damian was hurt and angry that she’d lied, but she hoped he’d eventually be able to forgive her – even if it happened after she was gone. Amy contended that she and Damian shared a bond, too.

Damian conceded that he’d thought he’d had a great childhood until he’d seen the way Amy had been when Jackson had been dying. Amy called it the worst time of her life, since she’d lost everything when Jackson had died, and she hadn’t been ready to lose him. She swore that she would do anything to repair the damage if there was still time. Damian said he was willing to try, and Amy cried that it was all she needed to hear.

Damian noticed Amy wasn’t eating much, and she informed him that the leukemia and meds left her with little appetite. She mentioned that she had an appointment with Nate’s oncologist friend the following week, but she wasn’t holding out for any miracles. Amy resolved to see yet another doctor to satisfy Nate, but the only miracle she needed was making peace with God and Damian. Damian noted that she and Nate had become close, and he wondered how well she’d gotten to know rest of Nate’s family.

Amy mentioned that she hadn’t spent much time with Nate’s cousins, but she adored Audra. Damian pushed to know if Amy thought Devon and Lily were good people who could be trusted. Amy wondered if Damian’s interest in Nate’s cousins meant he was serious about getting to know his brother better. Damian confirmed that he was thinking about it.

Billy teased Sally for meticulously fluffing the pillows on his couch, and he assured her the place looked perfect. She recognized that it was an important night for him, and she wanted to do everything she could to ensure it went smoothly. He pointed out that if the evening went south, it wouldn’t be because the pillows weren’t fluffy. Jack and Diane arrived.

Diane gushed that Billy’s place looked amazing, and Billy gave Sally all the credit for what she’d done with his recommendations. Diane pointedly told Jack it was all about trust, but Jack grumbled that they were without a home. Diane explained that they’d temporarily moved into the Athletic Club while the house was being updated. Billy recalled that Diane had reached out to request his blessing, but he hadn’t been aware of the scale of the renovations until he’d driven by and seen the construction crews. Jack was taken aback.

Diane swore it was no big deal and that the remodel was progressing beautifully. Sally piped up that in her own experience with interior design, she’d been surprised by how many workers even small things took, from electricians to demolition crews. Diane implored Sally to stop before Jack had a heart attack. Diane urged Jack to trust that he’d love their updated home, but if he didn’t, they could change it back to the “old, dated museum” he was comfortable in.

Billy changed the topic to it being a turning point in his life in more ways than one, and he thanked Jack for trusting and supporting him by funding his next journey. Billy proclaimed that all he’d ever wanted was for Jack to believe in him. Billy toasted to Abbott Communications and to Jack for helping him make it happen. Jack swore that he’d never stopped believing in Billy, and he’d always admired his brother’s resilience. Jack declared that he was proud of Billy for his capacity to love and forgive, and he was sure Billy’s venture would be a success.

Jack toasted to Billy, who joked that he’d better not screw it up. Diane questioned whether Billy really thought it was a good idea for Phyllis to be part of his new endeavor. Billy insisted that Phyllis would be an asset to the company and expected she would do everything in her power to make her comeback a success. Diane hoped Phyllis’ latest redemption was more successful than her last 100 attempts. “We all have our flaws. Don’t we, Diane?” Billy shot back.

Billy indicated that his company would launch within a few months or sooner if he heard back from Phyllis, who had been out of touch. Diane chided Phyllis for taking off in the middle of a launch without telling Billy. Sally steered Billy to the kitchen to help her with the food. Jack told Diane to let Billy have his moment without trashing Phyllis. Diane argued that it was also Jack’s investment, and it sounded like it was about to be derailed because of Phyllis. Jack opted to respect Billy’s decision to trust Phyllis. Diane asked if Jack had known Phyllis was part of it when he’d agreed to foot the bill.

Jack suggested he and Diane discuss Phyllis once they got home. Sally and Billy returned with dessert, and Diane asked Sally to show her around the rest of the place. After the ladies had stepped out, Billy said he didn’t care what Diane thought, but he did care about Jack’s opinion. Jack swore he trusted Billy’s instincts, but Phyllis going off on her own and not reporting back sounded alarmingly familiar. Jack warned that they both knew she wasn’t good at following rules, and he encouraged Billy to be careful.

After Jack and Diane left, Billy asked Sally if she thought he was making a mistake with Phyllis. Sally believed Phyllis was more comfortable working alone without having to answer to anyone. Billy grappled with his frustration over Phyllis not returning his calls, but he also knew she was aware it was her last chance. Sally realized he was worried something had happened to Phyllis.

Jack and Diane returned to the Athletic Club. He explained that he shared her concerns about Phyllis, but he didn’t want Billy to feel like he was pulling his support. Jack wanted Billy to fly with his new project. Diane clucked that the problem was that flying anywhere with Phyllis was bound to end in a crash landing.
