In her hotel room, Phyllis dreamed about being trapped at the abandoned psychiatric facility. A knock at the door woke her up, and she wondered where she was for a moment. Summer called out to ask if Phyllis was there. A bedraggled Phyllis opened the door and faced Summer and Nick. Summer asked what was wrong.
Phyllis testily told Summer and Nick to stop checking up on her. Nick said they’d stop worrying when Phyllis started talking about what was going on. Phyllis informed them that they’d caught her sleeping, and she’d been having a bad dream about being locked up in the clinic. Phyllis demanded that they let her get some rest, but Nick refused to leave. Nick stopped her from closing the door in their faces.
Summer pleaded with Phyllis to stop pretending everything was fine when it clearly wasn’t. Phyllis swore that she would eventually get over what had happened, but Nick pressed her to get help. Phyllis indicated that the EMTs had checked her out and given her a clean bill of health. She insisted she was fine and just frustrated. Summer responded that it was frustrating for them, too. Phyllis yelled that they had no idea what she was going through.
Phyllis ranted about being held captive with someone she despised. Phyllis struggled to think of who would be sick enough to punish her by forcing her to make amends with Sharon. Nick informed her that he’d just seen Sharon, and she was struggling as much as Phyllis was. Phyllis urged Nick to go hold Sharon’s hand instead.
Nick mentioned that he’d convinced Sharon to go see Noah in Europe to focus on something positive. Nick advised Phyllis to lean on the people who cared about her to help her get through it, but Phyllis spat that she didn’t ask for it or need it. Phyllis began to break down and repeatedly screeched to make her feelings stop. Nick pulled her into his arms as Summer helplessly looked on.
Phyllis condemned herself for being a blubbering idiot. Summer insisted that Phyllis didn’t have to put on act with them. Phyllis cried that she and Sharon had changed after saving one another’s lives, and they’d kept one another sane. Nick considered that a good thing, but Phyllis whimpered that he didn’t get it. She explained that Sharon had been her enemy for the better part of her adult life, and she didn’t know what to do with those feelings.
Phyllis tried to reconcile the mix of gratitude and resentment she felt toward Sharon. Nick implored her to view it as a small step forward in letting go of her anger. Phyllis chided him for thinking she enjoyed holding onto her rage. Phyllis conceded that Sharon wasn’t a monster but a complicated, tormented human – just like Phyllis. Phyllis wondered if she’d never be able to let go of her anger. Nick had an idea.
At Society, Daniel hesitantly approached Sharon and asked how she was doing. She reported that she was doing better, but she lamented that the ordeal wasn’t over by a long shot. Daniel acknowledged that it was hard to feel safe until the kidnapper was caught, and he was sure it would take time for Sharon and Phyllis to process their traumatic experience. Daniel asked how Sharon was handling it, and she replied that she was taking things moment by moment.
Sharon indicated that the irony of her and Phyllis intentionally being locked up together hadn’t been lost on either of them. She suspected the kidnapper had wanted them to find common ground and forgive one another after all the years they’d spent at odds. Daniel noted that she almost made it sound like the captor had been doing both women a favor. Sharon theorized that the kidnapper had been trying to prove that even the greatest of enemies could get along if the circumstances required it.
Daniel thought the ordeal had made the women stronger, and he believed Sharon and Phyllis had reached a new level of tolerance. Daniel questioned whether Sharon was really able to move past her hatred toward Phyllis. Sharon confided that the feelings of hostility hadn’t vanished overnight, and she sometimes felt grateful but also angry and confused within the same hour. She hoped the detente between her and Phyllis lasted and that it would be the start of healing between her and Daniel, as well.
Sharon swore she wasn’t fishing for forgiveness. Daniel found it ironic that they were on separate paths to the same place, and Sharon pointed out that at least they were both moving forward. Daniel pledged to look for the good moments in the darkness since the only alternative was to stay in a dark place, and he knew that wasn’t a good answer for anyone. Sharon mused that Phyllis was stronger than any of them and that there was nothing in the world Phyllis couldn’t survive.
Sharon inquired about Lucy, and Daniel reported that his daughter had good days and bad days, just like him. He shared that they didn’t talk about Heather much anymore, but he caught a faraway look in Lucy’s eyes when she was thinking about her mom. Daniel stressed that Sharon didn’t have to apologize because he knew she wasn’t responsible for Heather’s murder. Sharon’s phone chimed, and she read a message from Nick, who asked to meet at Crimson Lights.
After Sharon headed out, Daniel sat at the bar, where Tessa greeted him. Daniel noticed she’d dyed her hair blonde. She thought he looked like he needed someone to talk to. Daniel shared that his mom was pretending to be fine, and Tessa indicated that Sharon hadn’t said much about the kidnapping. Tessa bemoaned that it was hard for Mariah not to blame herself when she’d been Ian’s motive for showing up in town again. Tessa urged Daniel to talk to Mariah, who wasn’t opening up to her.
Tessa recognized that the trauma didn’t end when the threat did, and their loved ones had just been collateral damage from evil people doing evil things. Daniel told Tessa she’d given him a lot to think about, and he thanked her for always saying something that made him feel less isolated and crazy. He added that Mariah was lucky to have her.
Sharon burst into the coffeehouse and found Nick, Phyllis, and Summer waiting. Nick declared that it was time Sharon and Phyllis talked about what had happened and what would happen next. Sharon asked if Nick had tricked Phyllis into it. Phyllis swore it hadn’t been her idea, but she agreed with Nick. Phyllis admitted that she was having a hard time, and Sharon was the only one she could talk to about it.
Sharon thought it might help for her and Phyllis to talk without the threat of death hanging over their heads. Phyllis warned it might get ugly, and Sharon proclaimed that she was ready if Phyllis was. Nick and Summer stepped away to give the ladies privacy. Summer asked her dad if he really thought it would do any good. Nick wasn’t sure, but he imagined they’d find out soon.
At the Athletic Club, Michael reported to Victor that everything was going according to plan with the spies they’d planted at Glissade, and there would be more to report once Jack was done merging Glissade into Jabot. Michael imagined it would take time because Jabot was a huge company. “Not for long,” Victor replied, adding that winning in business was what he lived for. Victor turned the topic to what Michael had found out about the reclusive Aristotle Dumas.
Michael shared that Dumas appeared to have no interest in Winters, and Dumas’ connection with Damian appeared to be coincidental at best. Michael continued that Nate had approached Damian, and Lily and Devon hadn’t had anything to do with it. Victor ordered Michael to keep digging, and Michael questioned why Victor had a sudden interest in Dumas when he wasn’t a threat to Winters. Victor confirmed that he and Dumas had a history.
Victor recalled that he and Dumas had sometimes competed for the same companies, and they’d taken turns winning. Victor recounted that Dumas had a habit of disappearing after an interesting battle, and Victor tried to draw him out, but Dumas never took the bait. Michael quipped that any man who ignored Victor Newman was a man who probably shouldn’t be ignored himself. “You got that right,” Victor replied.
Victor instructed Michael to find out why Dumas had resurfaced then. Victor anticipated Dumas would make a hit on a company and then vanish with no publicity involved. Michael sensed Victor’s mission wasn’t just about helping Lily and Devon. Victor stated that Lily and Devon could help him by putting Aristotle Dumas in his sights.
At Billy’s house, Billy greeted Sally with a kiss. Billy hoped she hadn’t thought he’d been pushing her out when Phyllis had stopped by, and Sally assured him he didn’t have to explain anything to her. Billy swore he didn’t want any secrets between them after their exes had lied to them. Sally agreed that honesty was a requirement, and she asked what Phyllis had wanted to talk to him about.
Billy relayed that Phyllis had affirmed her commitment to the launch of Abbott Communications and thanked him for saving her life. Sally contemplated the cosmic rule that if someone saved someone’s life, they would be bonded forever. She admired him for being a good friend. Billy wanted to ensure Phyllis was at the top of her game when his company launched, but he admitted that he worried about her.
Sally reasoned that the worst was over, but Billy pointed out that the kidnapper was still out there. Sally remarked that it was a good thing that Phyllis was tough. Billy agreed, but he also thought something had cracked inside of Phyllis while she’d been held captive with Sharon. Sally thought Phyllis could handle anything.
Billy noted that Phyllis wore a suit of armor to not seem weak or vulnerable, but she bled like anyone else. He added that he and Phyllis were a lot alike, which was why things had never worked romantically between them. Billy resolved to stop talking about Phyllis because he wanted that night to be all about Sally. He inquired whether Sally wanted to go out for dinner or order in. She purred that dinner could wait, and they kissed.
Later, Billy returned home with takeout. Sally handed him his phone, which had constantly been buzzing. She wondered why Aristotle Dumas needed to reach him.
