Audra approached Victor at the jazz lounge, and he remarked that she was right on time. She pointed out that she’d never actually agreed to meet him. Audra figured that the all-knowing Victor Newman was always ten steps ahead of everyone else. A server dropped off drinks, and Victor informed Audra that he’d ordered her favorite margarita. He added that by his count, he was only nine steps ahead of her.
Audra pressed to hear about the options Victor had in mind for her future. Victor asked if she still held a grudge against Kyle for stabbing her in the back. Audra pointed out that Victor had been the one to fire her. Victor maintained that Kyle had betrayed her, and he was sure it still bothered her. He inquired whether she’d ever considered getting even with Kyle. Audra questioned what she would get if she did. Victor suggested they strike a deal.
Audra assumed Victor’s deal involved taking Kyle down, but she was curious about whether Victor had been impressed with her work at Newman Media. Victor admitted that both he and Nikki had been very impressed, and he was willing to offer Audra a division of his company to run. Audra surmised that she’d have to screw Kyle over in return. Victor appealed to her to demonstrate how easy it would be to lure Kyle back into an affair with her.
Audra huffed that she wasn’t interested. Victor clarified that he wasn’t expecting her to seduce Kyle, but he just wanted her to help show who Kyle really was. Victor explained that Kyle was seeing Claire, and he didn’t like it. Audra questioned why she should trust Victor after the way he’d treated her at Glissade. Victor proclaimed that what he was offering was far grander than anything she ever could have done at Glissade. Nate entered the club and saw them together.
Nate confronted Victor about telling Lily not to trust Damian. Victor stood by his friendly advice to be cautious of Damian and Dumas. Nate snapped that he could make his own decisions about who to trust, and he voiced surprise to see Audra sharing a drink with Victor after the way he’d treated her. Victor stated that Audra was also capable of deciding who to trust, and he started to head out. Audra called after him and agreed to consider what they’d discussed. After Victor left, Nate asked what the exchange had been about.
Summer greeted Phyllis in the Athletic Club foyer. Phyllis indicated that she was heading over to Sharon’s place, since Chance wanted to talk to them about some information he’d found on the kidnapper. Summer hoped Phyllis would soon be able to put the ordeal behind her. Phyllis anticipated having to look over her shoulder until that happened.
Phyllis admitted that her nightmares made her angry because she’d been through worse things in life, but the psychological aspect of the mind games had gotten to her. Phyllis grappled with not knowing who her captor had been, noting that the person could be there watching her right then. Phyllis lamented that the voices in her head weren’t going away. Summer advised that the culprit only had as much power as Phyllis gave them. Phyllis imagined she would keep feeling that way until the kidnapper was caught.
At the cottage, Sharon stopped herself from sipping from a water bottle and flashed back to administering the antidote to the poison Phyllis had ingested at Havenhurst. Nick arrived and observed that Sharon’s bags were packed. She enthused about going to London to see Noah. Nick wondered if there was room for one more, since he’d also packed a bag and arranged for the Newman jet to fly them overseas. Sharon excitedly hugged him.
Sharon asked what had changed Nick’s mind. Nick imagined that Noah had felt helpless in Europe during Sharon’s kidnapping, and he looked forward to seeing his son for a few days. Sharon disguised her disappointment and chirped that she was happy Nick would be there for part of the trip. Sharon mentioned that Chance would be stopping by soon with an update about the kidnapper.
Phyllis arrived, and she wondered if Chance had also summoned Nick. Sharon announced that Nick would be joining her and Faith on a trip to London to visit Noah. Phyllis plastered on a smile and swore she was excited for them. Sharon recommended that Phyllis do the same thing by taking a family vacation with Daniel and Summer. Phyllis insisted she was too busy launching a new company with Billy.
Nick pressed to know whether Phyllis was okay. Phyllis asserted that she didn’t want what happened to hold her back any more than it already had. Chance arrived and announced that he had news about the kidnapper. Chance shared that he didn’t have a name yet, but he’d traced the payment for the remote device that had triggered the gas to a psychiatric clinic in Paris. He inquired whether that meant anything to Sharon or Phyllis.
Sharon noted that Alan had arranged for Ashley to be treated at a clinic outside Paris. Nick observed that Chance seemed to react to Alan’s name, but Chance declined to go into details. Phyllis begged to know more. Chance confirmed he didn’t know if there was any connection with Alan or Ashley, but another piece of the puzzle might have just fallen into place.
Chance shared that he was looking at other purchases made on the same account. Phyllis ranted that she lived in constant fear that the kidnapper would be back for them, and she thought the person was smart enough to evade the cops. Phyllis asked if Alan might have had something to do with it, but Chance urged her not to jump to conclusions. Phyllis wailed that Sharon was leaving town, but she was still there and scared she would be killed or abducted. Chance promised he was close to figuring it out, and he asked them to trust him.
After Chance left, Phyllis pondered how Alan could have been part of the kidnapping when she hadn’t even heard of him until a few weeks earlier. Phyllis cited Ashley’s history of mental illness and stay at the clinic in Paris, and she contemplated whether Ashley had plotted the kidnapping. Sharon doubted Ashley would torture them after going through a breakdown of her own. Sharon remembered her conversation with Traci, who’d seemed almost upset about the details of the kidnapping. Nick figured Traci had been trying to be helpful, but Sharon was no longer sure.
Sharon applauded how helpful Alan had been when he’d hypnotized her. Phyllis wondered if Sharon had told Alan about their history, but Sharon said they’d only talked about her blackouts. Phyllis bemoaned that they didn’t know anything more than they had before, but Nick cited Chance’s reaction when Alan’s name had been mentioned. Nick believed Chance was suspicious of Alan. Phyllis implied that Sharon and Nick should rethink taking their trip.
At Society, Claire implored Kyle to tell her more about what he and Jack were working on. Kyle chalked it up to boring business stuff, but Claire observed that he’d seemed upbeat about it earlier. Claire recalled that Kyle had been proud and energized about his work, but he’d shut down when Victor had walked in. She wondered if the problem Kyle and Jack had solved had something to do with her grandfather.
Claire referred to how Kyle had been needling Victor earlier. Kyle reasoned that Victor took a shot at him every time they saw one another, so he’d just given one back. Kyle surmised Claire had Victor on the brain because she was worried her grandfather would never accept their relationship, and he thought they needed to put distance between themselves and Victor to avoid becoming casualties in the war between Victor and the Abbotts. Claire refused to leave the table until she got a real answer about what Kyle and Jack had been working on.
Kyle informed Claire that an employee had been acting suspiciously, and he thought it might be part of a plan to commit corporate espionage, although he wasn’t sure who might be behind it. Kyle voiced concern that every time something happened, Claire believed Victor was involved. Kyle promised to stop needling Victor if Claire agreed to stop jumping to conclusions. Claire acknowledged that she might have overreacted. Kyle suggested that they put Victor and work out of their minds and go to the jazz club for a nightcap. Summer watched as the couple canoodled.
Summer greeted Kyle and Claire on their way out. Kyle said he’d been meaning to call to inquire about Phyllis, and Claire added that they’d both been concerned. Summer reported that hanging out with Harrison had helped Phyllis. Summer reminded Kyle of a parent event they had at Harrison’s school that week, and she gushed about a picture Harrison had drawn of her as part of his report. Claire mentioned that she’d seen Harrison working on it, and it was very flattering. Kyle mused that the boy made everyone feel better, and he gazed adoringly at Claire.
Summer feigned amusement as Kyle and Claire fondly recalled a magic show Harrison had performed for them. Summer forlornly looked on as Kyle and Claire happily left together. Chance saw Summer’s reaction and asked if she was okay. Chance apologized for being late because of new developments in the kidnapping case. He complained that Phyllis didn’t seem to understand that he couldn’t speculate about everything. Summer defended that her mother needed closure to start putting her life back together.
Chance sympathized but cautioned that it wasn’t healthy to hold onto negative feelings because it made it seem like one was running in place. Summer sensed they weren’t talking about her mom anymore. Chance thought they could no longer dance around Summer’s feelings for Kyle, since she was clearly jealous that Kyle had moved on with Claire. Chance urged her to at least admit it to herself if not to him. Summer blurted out that she couldn’t stand that Kyle and Claire were together.
Summer groused that she wanted to scream every time she saw Claire hanging all over Kyle, and the same went for when her family acted like Claire walked on water. Summer lamented that she and Kyle had known one another since they’d been kids, and they were supposed to be one another’s happily ever after. Summer conceded that part of her wasn’t over losing Kyle – especially to someone like Claire – and she couldn’t keep pretending anymore. Chance agreed that it hadn’t been fair to either one of them.
