At Crimson Lights, Christine told Chance that Daniel felt a case was being built against him, and she was there to represent him if needed. Christine asked Chance how the evidence was stacked up and if Daniel would be charged with Heather’s murder.
Chance stalled and asked Christine to congratulate him for returning to the force. Christine told him she was happy about it but noted that Nina was not. Chance said he would try not to get shot this time.
Christine told Chance she also wanted justice for Heather but knew that Daniel was not the culprit. Chance said he wanted that to be true, but the evidence said otherwise. “A little too conveniently, don’t you think?” Christine asked. Chance said it wasn’t up to him. He said the D.A. would decide if charges would be pressed against Daniel that day. Christine reminded Chance that Daniel and Lucy were mourning and begged him not to go after the wrong person.
Phyllis made a dramatic entrance to Billy’s office, sighing heavily as she slunk to his couch. She updated him about Lucy going on tour with Danny and said that Daniel was being framed for murder. Billy acknowledged that Chance was a good cop.

Phyllis laid out her theory that Sharon murdered Heather. Billy thought it was outrageous, but Phyllis said Sharon counted on everyone to think that. Phyllis noted that Sharon had always resented Daniel for Cassie’s death, and framing him for Heather’s murder would be the ultimate payback.
Billy told Phyllis she needed to go home and relax as she sounded like she was spinning out by making intense accusations. Phyllis said if she was, he would want something to ground her and suggested Billy give her back her job.
Billy said he wouldn’t negotiate with Phyllis in the state of mind that she was in, nor would he hire Daniel. “I’m not going to hire someone that might be up for murder charges,” Billy added. Phyllis told Billy she knew how to counter the hit piece Newman Media did, but Billy doubted Phyllis could think of anything that wouldn’t come back to haunt her.
Phyllis asked Billy to meet her halfway, but he said her behavior only reaffirmed his position. He told Phyllis she couldn’t be there, and he couldn’t be distracted from the relaunch of Abbott-Chancellor listening to her wild accounts.
Phyllis told Billy she thought he was her friend. Billy said he was and as such, advised her to go home and take some time for herself. Billy said he had somewhere he needed to be. He promised to talk to Jill, prove he was on track, and then see if he could rehire Phyllis. “I’m not going to lose this company because of you or anyone else,” Billy said before leaving.
Daniel helped Lucy pack her stuff in the hotel room as they talked about memories of Daniel and Heather being playful. Lucy admitted that she was scared about Daniel’s future and what could happen while she was gone with Danny.
Daniel gave Lucy a bracelet-making kit. He reminded her of the bracelet she got for him in Portugal and how it comforted him while she was away. He wanted her to also have one while she was away with her grandpa.
As they made bracelets together, Lucy asked if Daniel was scared. “No, I didn’t do anything wrong, and I’m sure Chance will see that,” Daniel said. He told Lucy it made him feel better knowing she would be safe with Danny. “We just lost Mom. It feels like we should be together, not apart,” Lucy said. Daniel promised that it would all work out.
“We’re going to be back together again soon, and then nothing will keep us apart ever again,” Daniel assured Lucy. Lucy noted that although Heather wasn’t her biological mom, she felt connected to her like a soul mate. Lucy lamented that they hadn’t even had a funeral, but she was scared of seeing her coffin. Daniel said when it was all done, they would have a celebration of Heather instead.
Kyle saw Jack in the living room and asked if he was okay. “Wow, sounds like you almost want to know. I thought you didn’t care,” Jack retorted. Kyle said he was just trying to be nice. Jack wondered if Kyle was actually upset about what happened between his parents. Kyle said it had been disturbing to see them fight.
Kyle admitted he had confronted Diane after she left. He explained he wanted to see if there had been truth to the accusations. Kyle shared that Diane had wanted to be an Abbott and join Jabot when she returned. Jack agreed she had an agenda and was the person everyone warned them about. “Did she ever really love us?” Kyle asked.
Kyle noted that Jack loved and trusted Diane when everyone told him not to and wondered how it got to the point it was at. “It all came down to one thing: You,” Jack said. Jack explained that Diane had insisted that Kyle pay dearly for his betrayal but wouldn’t accept the blame for taking Kyle to that extreme.
Kyle thought his dad was making him sound like he was from the dark side. “You stole from the company, Kyle,” Jack said. He told Kyle he was tired, sad, and disappointed in himself. “I failed this family in every way,” Jack said. He noted that his father would not have wanted this either. “What does he have to do with this?” Kyle asked.
Jack told Kyle how Victor had asked him what his father would think of their situation. Kyle dismissed it as Victor just getting in a dig, but Jack admitted that what Victor said got to him. “All because I was blind. I chose her above you and put her needs above yours. I loved your mother more than you will ever know, but I failed you. And that is worse than losing Diane,” Jack said. He grabbed his jacket and walked out, leaving Kyle speechless.
Diane saw Jack and Nikki walk to a table at the Athletic Club and followed them. They asked her to leave them alone, but she was fired up. “I thought you’d want to gloat,” she said. Diane told them how Jack accused her of being a gold-digging monster and a manipulative narcissist. “He lost all love for me, threw me out of the house, and fired me from Jabot,” she added.
Diane told Victor and Nikki that she wanted to get ahead of the rumors and slander and tell her side herself. “All of this is Jack’s fault, not mine. I was his partner in everything. He abandoned me, and even my enemies should know that,” she snapped. Nikki told Diane that now that Jack had abandoned her, everyone could go back to shunning her. Diane said she had plenty of reasons to stick around.
Diane sat down and told Victor that she thought he could understand where she was coming from. She noted that Victor knew the importance of being respected by his children and family loyalty. “Don’t you dare compare our two families,” Nikki fumed.
Diane said Kyle treated her terribly, and she held him to account. She added that Victor would have done the same in her position. Victor snarled that they didn’t care about her marital problems. “I want to show my family how deeply they wounded me by making them feel my pain for themselves!” Diane told Victor adamantly.
Nikki told Diane she had some nerve to get revenge on the people who gave her opportunities. “Kyle needs to face repercussions for his behavior. He needs to face the humiliation of massive failure to strip him of his ego and make him grow up,” Diane told Victor. Nikki was appalled, but Victor kept listening. “After the way they hurt me, they deserve it. Seeing Kyle fail would be a knife through Jack’s heart,” Diane said through gritted teeth.
Victor asked Diane what her plot was, but she said she had nothing concrete planned yet. “When I do, I could use your help. In the meantime, I’m right upstairs if you’d like to get in touch,” Diane said before walking away.
Nikki said Diane always painted herself as the victim and wanted to know why Victor heard her out. “She’s malicious enough; she doesn’t need encouraging,” Nikki told Victor. “I wanted to see how far she’d go,” Victor explained.
Billy saw Jack at Society and they both looked miserable. Jack asked how Phyllis was doing at Abbott-Chancellor. Billy told him that Jill made him “unhire” Phyllis. They almost argued, but Jack apologized for his mood and said he wasn’t himself.
Billy noted they hadn’t seen eye-to-eye in a while but said he was Jack’s brother and was there for him. Jack told Billy about his public fight with Diane and how their marriage was over. Jack said that Diane finally admitted she returned to claim her place as an Abbott and at Jabot. Billy admitted he was genuinely sorry as he knew how much Jack loved her. Jack said the ironic upside was that he and Kyle spoke for the first time in months and felt some “thaw.” Jack wondered if the only way to heal his relationship with Kyle was to lose Diane.
Diane and Phyllis crossed paths in Chancellor Park. Diane tried to extend her condolences. “Don’t pretend to have sympathy for me and my family. We don’t like each other,” Phyllis said. Diane asked if they could transcend the hatred. “Sounds great, but I know who you are,” Phyllis said. Diane shot back that Phyllis was the woman who faked her death and framed her for murder. Phyllis told Diane that Heather was brutally murdered, and she had to take care of her family and not make it worse, so she walked away.
Phyllis arrived at the Athletic Club just in time to say goodbye to Lucy. Lucy hugged her grandmother and father and told them she loved them. Daniel promised to keep her updated while she was away. “I expect at least one picture of you on stage dancing with Grandpa,” Daniel teased. “Rock on!” Phyllis quipped.
After Lucy left, Phyllis asked Daniel if she could buy him breakfast. Daniel said he wanted to return to his room but didn’t want to be alone. Phyllis was about to go upstairs with him, but Chance walked in behind them. Daniel asked Chance if he had any good news for them. “I just got word from the D.A.,” Chance replied, “Daniel, you are under arrest for the murder of Heather Stevens.”
