Daniel joined Tessa at Crimson Lights. She asked Daniel how he was feeling and let him know that he could be honest with her. Tessa said it was good that Daniel was "feeling the feels."

Tessa quipped that Daniel wouldn't turn into John Mayer overnight with his guitar skills. Daniel agreed that patience wasn't one of his strong suits. Tessa told Daniel that she was the woman he should call if he needed to slow his roll.

Daniel believed that Tessa had her work cut out for her, but she laughed that she loved a new project — especially one that bought her coffee. Daniel commended Tessa on her efforts and said he was excited to learn some new chords.

Phyllis flagged down Billy at the Genoa City Athletic Club. She wanted to talk to him, but Billy wasn't interested. Instead, he told her he wanted to go and work out. Billy told Phyllis that he wouldn't join her for breakfast. "The waffles are good, but they're not that good," he said. Phyllis laughed at Billy's attempt at humor, but she didn't back down from wanting to talk to him about Daniel and Abbott Communications.

Billy sighed that nothing had changed between Daniel and Billy, and reiterated that Daniel is not interested in joining Abbott Communications. Phyllis said that Daniel's problems started when he was in Savannah. Billy said Abbott Communications would not solve his issues. Billy gave Phyllis an ultimatum: She needed to drop the idea of Daniel working for Billy's new company, or they'd have to go their separate ways. Phyllis was determined to help her son, and she believed that the solution to Daniel's woes was working with them at Abbott Communications.

Phyllis insisted that she was giving her all to Billy and the company launch. Billy countered that Phyllis won't give up smothering Daniel, and she was leaving him no choice. "You're out," Billy told Phyllis. "You're firing me?" Phyllis responded. Billy confirmed, unfortunately, he was.

Phyllis tried to backtrack. Billy said as far as he was concerned, they had moved on. Phyllis begged not to be fired. "You pulled me out of that horrible place," Phyllis said. "This company is saving my life. Please don't take it away from me. Please don't."

Billy acknowledged that Phyllis was going through hell, but Phyllis didn't want to take time off to heal. Billy said the timing wasn't right to work together, but Phyllis wanted to be given another chance to prove how amazing she was. Billy acknowledged that she was amazing, but his mind was made up.

After Billy left, Daniel called to tell Phyllis that he couldn't meet her and that his final decision was not to work at Abbott Communications. Phyllis said she could accept Daniel's decision if he were to meet her in person, claiming she needed to see his eyes to believe it. Instead, Daniel asked for space. Phyllis wanted to know how he was going to figure things out and was disappointed to learn he was confiding in someone else. Phyllis shared that Billy had just fired her. Daniel offered to reach out to Billy and ask him to reconsider, but Phyllis thought it was futile.

Daniel told Tessa that he needed to take care of something and left, but forgot his jacket. Tessa greeted Mariah with a big hug and welcomed her home from her business trip. Mariah said she had back-to-back meetings that were boring. Tessa knew Aria would be happy to see her, but Mariah said she couldn't wait to hug her and went home immediately from the airport. "Mariah, is everything okay?" Tessa asked after picking up on some uneasiness.

Mariah maintained that she was too busy to talk to Tessa at that moment as she had to get to Cassidy First. Mariah left as Phyllis entered and spotted Daniel's jacket on the back of a chair. Phyllis asked if Tessa was the one whom Daniel was referring to when he said someone was helping him. Tessa apprehensively admitted that she was the one Daniel had turned to, and was surprised when Phyllis happily hugged her. Phyllis asked Tessa to tell her that she would help her save her son.

Sally and Audra ran into one another while out jogging. Audra gave Sally an update on Amy and added that Nate sounded optimistic. Sally commented about Holden and Audra, prompting her friend to get frustrated. Audra asked why everyone thought something was still going on with her and Holden. Sally apologized to Audra for making a bad joke. Audra shared that Lily was always trying to get a dig in on her.

Sally surmised that perhaps Lily picked up on the same things that she did. Sally said that she trusted Audra. Sally theorized that Lily picked up on something between the two, not because of Audra but because of Holden. "Whatever I had with Holden is in the past," Audra stated. Sally said she hoped that someday Audra would trust her enough to confide in her and tell her what really happened, because whatever was going on seemed to be eating at her.

Audra changed the subject when she said she'd rather talk about Billy and Phyllis and what was going on with Abbott Communications. Sally said she had walked in on Billy and Phyllis talking. She brought Audra up to speed on the situation regarding Daniel and Billy's ultimatum to Phyllis about moving on from obsessing over her son. Sally wished that Billy had fired Phyllis but conceded that Phyllis had gone through a lot with her kidnapping. Audra couldn't understand why Billy didn't see Phyllis as toxic; Sally lamented that maybe he did.

Sally shared that Billy had asked her to come work with him at the new company. Audra suggested to Sally that she try to love something other than fashion, but Sally feared working with Billy would blow them up as a couple.

Audra suggested that she and Sally could have fun with her working at Abbott Communications and Audra starting up her own company. Audra said she would poach Sally if she didn't take Billy up on his offer. Audra noted that going to Abbott Communications didn't mean she'd have to leave fashion. Audra mused that if Sally came on board with Billy professionally, then Phyllis would be gone for good.

At the Genoa City Athletic Club, Billy was at the bar when Daniel marched in and demanded to know why he would fire Phyllis over him. Billy suggested to Daniel that he calm down. Daniel agreed that Phyllis pushed a little hard, but he couldn't bail on Phyllis over the first sign of conflict. Daniel begged Billy not to fire Phyllis, as working with Billy at Abbott Communications was what she needed.

Billy insisted he was doing what was best for Phyllis. "She needs more time, less stress," Billy pointed out. Daniel maintained that Phyllis would do a great job at Abbott Communications. "Do not do this, Billy," Daniel warned. He told Billy that he was being cold when he refused to change his mind.

Billy appreciated Daniel going to bat for Phyllis, but reiterated that he wasn't changing his mind. Daniel thought it was a mistake. Billy theorized that he'd be begging Phyllis to join him in a year. On his way out, Billy ran into Sally. She told him that she had been doing some soul-searching, but she stopped when she could tell he was upset.

Billy wanted to know what Sally came to say, so she said she had been thinking about her, him, and Abbott Communications. Meanwhile, Phyllis was alone in the park. She was breathing heavily and appeared distressed.
