At the tack house, Victoria and Claire warmly welcomed Cole back to town. He said he was with his two favorite girls. Cole said he'd like to have some time before he traveled again. He explained that most of his time away was spent in boardrooms learning about Newman Publishing. Cole added he had time to get to Paris and Serbia to pick up some gifts he presented to Victoria and Claire.

Claire opened Cole's gift: tickets to a show that she, Victoria, and Cole could attend together. The father and daughter shared an embrace, then Victoria opened up her gift. It was a key; Claire guessed there was a story behind the gift. Cole explained that there's a bridge in this town in Serbia. He said a young couple parted before he went off to fight in World War I, but he soldier never returned and his girl died of a broken heart. Townsfolk inscribed their names onto the locks that are on the bridge. Today, there are thousands of locks on the bridge; Claire said they're called "love locks."

Cole said he put their names on a lock there. He added that Victoria could decide if she wanted to throw the key into the water, which would indicate her devotion to what she and Cole have. Claire suggested that Victoria should let Cole know what she'll do with the key. Victoria said Cole would have to take her there so he could find out what she'd do. Cole suggested that they continue celebrating his return with a late lunch.

The countdown to Jack and Kyle seeing the redone Abbott house had begun when Diane told her husband and son that they could move back in this afternoon. Kyle complimented his mother on her efforts at the house. He said whatever she did would be amazing. Diane asked a quiet Jack what he was thinking and feeling. Jack said he had been comfortable with the idea of changes being made to the home he loved, but he added that he wasn't sure he wanted to see them.

Diane was surprised that Jack had regressed to feeling this way. Jack said that when he walked through the glass doors at the Abbott home, he felt comfort. Now, there was no turning back, and he feared he'd never feel that way again. Jack hastened to add that Diane has fabulous taste. Diane assured her husband that he had nothing to worry about, and Kyle lightened the mood by informing his father that if he didn't like it, then he could move in with him and Claire.

Jack interrupted Kyle and Diane's small talk by saying they needed to get this over with, hastening to pull back and not hurt Diane's feelings. After Diane left to handle some last-minute details, Kyle asked his dad what that was about.

Kyle tried to lighten his father's mood. He pointed out that even Victor had the ranch redone and that perhaps Diane hadn't done that much. Kyle said that Traci and Ashley signed off on the changes. Jack noted that his sisters were going through a lot and he didn't want Traci and Ashley to lose their sense of security.

Kyle pointed out that his aunts have proven themselves to be resilient. Jack reminded Kyle that they lost Dina, his grandmother, in the house. Kyle told his dad that he needed to have trust in Diane. Jack thanked his son for his supportive words. Kyle exited to get a scone so that Harrison would eat something healthy in exchange for the bakery treat.

Audra met with Victor at the ranch to go over their new deal. She said her lawyer looked over the contract and that she was ready to sign it. Audra added that Nate wanted to look at the deal. Victor told Audra he had the feeling he knew what she was doing. Audra said Victor wanted plausible deniability when she blew up Kyle and Claire's relationship. Victor said he wanted to stay out of it. Just then, Nikki appeared and asked what was happening.

Victor picked up on Nikki's suspicions. Nikki informed Audra that her flattery wasn't going to impress her. Audra exited. She told Nikki it was wonderful seeing her look so well. Nikki got closer to Victor and asked what that was all about.

Nikki said there was nothing above board regarding Audra. Victor pointed out that Nikki herself pointed out how good Audra was at her job. Nikki noted that Audra hasn't been able to get arrested since Victor fired her. She wanted to know what was in it for Victor.

Victor asked Nikki to drop it after she asked to learn more about this new company with Audra. The mogul thought Nikki was busy enough with Chancellor. Nikki said she could multitask but their conversation was interrupted by Cole. He dropped by to check in with Victor and Nikki about his trip. Nikki hoped that Victor would be too busy with Audra's company to bother Jack and Kyle.

Victor told Cole that he knew he was the right man for the job. Cole admitted that while he knew nothing about the business side of publishing, he did act as a human sponge while he was abroad. Cole presented Victor with a gift from Taiwan. "I come bearing gifts, sir," Cole said. His present was a copy of The Art of War, which was written in the 5th century B.C. and is attributed to Sun Tzu.

Victor sincerely appreciated Cole's gift. He then told Cole that it had come to his attention that Kyle Abbott and Claire had grown closer. Cole said he was aware of that and that Claire was happy. Victor said he didn't trust Kyle and that Cole should not either.

Cole acknowledged the long-running Newman/Abbott feud, but said that this was about Kyle and Claire. Victor pointed out that Cole was a relatively new father. He added that he had lived longer and that Kyle would break Claire's heart. Cole said he understood how Victor felt but that this was Claire's call -- not his, Victoria's, or Victor's. Victor theorized that when Claire's heart breaks so will Cole's.

Nikki dropped by the tack house to let Victoria and Claire to let them know Victor was back in business with Aura. Claire said it wouldn't be a leap to suspect that this was to harm Kyle and Jabot.

Cole returned to the tack house after his talk with Victor. Claire asked what they had talked about. Cole said it was business — mostly.

At Society, Cole continued to talk about his trip, where he was brought up to speed on Newman Publishing. Victoria was glad he had a productive trip and hoped he didn't have to travel unless it was to use the gifts he brought her and Claire.

Claire reminded Cole of what happened with Ian, Jordan, and Traci. Cole said he nearly came home on more than one occasion because of what had been going on. He asked if something good had gone on while he was away. Claire said there was: She and Kyle were moving in together.

Victoria said she didn't know the cohabitation was imminent. Claire said she's in love with Kyle, and he feels the same way. She hoped that her parents would respond positively to her news. Cole revealed that Kyle's name came up when he talked to Victor. Victoria asked Cole if Victor threatened his job. Cole said no, and that he'd always have Claire's back. Victoria concurred.

Then, Cole began coughing. Victoria asked if he was okay. Cole said he had a cough that he had or maybe it was allergies. Claire told her dad to take care of himself. Cole said he was good. Cole changed the subject by saying Kyle needed to be with them, celebrating their good news.

Audra spoke on her phone at Crimson Lights. She said she was ready to sign the deal. Then, Kyle, getting Harrison's scone, ran into her. He wondered if Audra conned her way into this deal with Victor. He theorized that Audra's new role with Victor is in the cosmetics industry after he referred to her comment to him about how he'd soon be facing competition.

Kyle commented to Audra that he survived Victor's last business move by landing at Jabot as CEO. "That's because your daddy felt sorry for you. He picked you up and plopped you right into a 'nepo baby' job," Audra taunted Kyle. He doubted that she'd do well in her next job.

Audra confirmed that she was going back to the cosmetics world. Kyle wished her luck competing against Jabot, which has had decades of success. Audra suggested that Kyle's daddy issues will always do him in. She added that she knew all of Kyle's weaknesses.

Kyle and Jack arrived at the Newman house. Diane answered the door. She asked the men in her life to close their eyes. Then, she said they could open them. The two men looked at the new Abbott living room. Diane asked what they thought. Kyle said, "All I can say is wow!" Jack appeared mesmerized.
