Here’s your Two Scoops (and a lump of coal) of the happenings around Genoa City during the week of December 16, 2024 on The Young and the Restless.

This week on The Young and the Restless

What a week on The Young and the Restless when Kyle moved backward, Silly leaped forward, and Sharon went under hypnosis to figure out what happened when she was asleep.

The Ghost of Christmas Past

Okay, it’s the season of giving, so let’s start out being kind. It’s a tough year at the Romalotti house. Daniel, being the amazing dad that he is, thought he’d force-feed Lucy some Christmas spirit until she got caught up in it — and it worked. But let’s be real…when he dragged in that tree wrapped in burlap, I thought he had Sharon tied up and was waiting til dusk to bring her to a bridge. Maybe it was some rule of the building (not that there’s any security or cameras to enforce it) to prevent needles from being littered down the halls? But the last time we saw an object like that being dragged through that door, it had Heather in it.

Anyway, Daniel made the faux pas of placing identical ornaments next to one another on the tree like a psycho, and Lucy got up to fix it. And just like that, she found a little joy in the holiday. A wee little, but enough to smile.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Innocence

Sharon knew that she had blacked out at Heather’s. So did we — I mean, we saw it, right? And because of that, we thought, or even hoped, that the whole murder thing was just part of an elaborate dream that Sharon had, and eventually, we’d reset the clock, and all go back to the night she was killed, and Lucy and Daniel wouldn’t be sad anymore.

But now, Sharon knows her meds were messed with and is back on the right stuff, and she’s getting stronger and clearer daily. Despite her family’s objections, she hired Alan (we think) to hypnotize her. The only problem is that Sharon was passed out on the couch when Heather died, so hypnotizing her isn’t really going to help fill in that blank. But, Sharon remembered that a gloved hand had grabbed her shoulder.

And now, I’ve got questions. Sharon said she doesn’t remember if the person was behind her, beside her, or in front of her. I’m not a lawyer but if I was going to cross-examine that statement, I’d be suggesting that there’s a pretty big difference between them all and if she remembered seeing a hand on her shoulder (presuming she saw it since she knew it was gloved) then the hand was attached to someone and not just literally only a hand on her shoulder? I get it that it’s at least proving they weren’t alone, but I’m not quite sure it’s enough to get her charges dropped.

Three Wise Men…and Chance

It’s an odd testimony, but on the other hand (no pun intended), maybe it’s not going to make it to testimony-level evidence because Michael is ready to call in the big guns now. Michael is going to call Chance and have him re-open the case, and Nick’s going to see to it that he finds the evidence to exonerate Sharon.

And we all know what that means: It’s Chance’s time to shine. No more messing around with tunnel vision and deniability. This time, Chance is going to come through for us. I mean, he’s got the one person who could place themselves with a motive at the scene of the crime but was ignored, so she eventually confessed to the murder, and he still didn’t believe it. And now, Sharon has vindicated Chance. His hunch that Sharon wasn’t guilty is correct. Or at least, that’s what Sharon now remembers and in Chance’s little notebook, that should mean something.

And what will the brilliant detective do with this change of testimony? No one has a clue, including Chance, but I think it’s a safe bet that he’ll suddenly be able to find evidence that he couldn’t before. Like…let’s roll the tape! Maybe now he’ll think of getting the security camera footage from the night Heather died. Maybe he can even trace Sharon’s steps and see if there’s any footage from cams in the neighborhood that show someone following her.

Sharon suggested that the person had been there since before Heather got home. But if that’s the case, they were hiding in the apartment the whole time she was poisoning the whiskey, then regretting it, cleaning up the broken glass, and…wait a minute. The broken glass. That was caused by Sharon having a physical altercation with Cameron. Or was it Cameron? Was that Jordan in disguise telling her to poison him? Was she there all along?

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer

We have to assume Jordan killed Heather. Ian even told her one day to try to finish the job without any more casualties, so it’s pretty safe to assume he meant she killed Heather. Which isn’t exactly out of character — she seems to knock off people who get in her way.

The stroll down memory lane, though, was interesting. I thought their paths crossed in prison somehow, but that it would have involved someone being killed or something whackjob-ish, and instead, it was like two evil masterminds finding their counterpart, which is all fine and good. If you’re going to bring on the crazy, why not double the fun? The romantic interlude, though, didn’t see that coming. But is that a foreshadow? Will they have to choose between love and revenge? Will they have to turn on one another or just do it because that’s how they are? Or will the fact that Jordan and Ian have a romantic relationship be a build-up to the future when one inevitably is either arrested or dead, and the other swears neverending vengeance on the Newmans for ruining their original revenge plot yet again and taking someone else they pretend to care about from them?

I may have mentioned I wasn’t much of a Jordan fan before, but I’m back on the bandwagon now. Jordan and Ian together are fun (in a horrible way), and creative. Maybe they haven’t done much yet except lay some groundwork, they’re going to cause some chaos. But those flashbacks were a good selling point for the future of what those two could actually do together. Someone’s in trouble though, just not sure who quite yet, but I have my suspicions.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

So we got another fun fact about Silly as they got to know each other like normal people: They like to jog at night. So off they went on a run together, followed by cocoa at Crimson Lights. It was cute and flirty, and although I admittedly can’t keep up if they’re going for it or not, they’re at least friends with benefits, and I’m still a fan of both of them, separately and together.

But I’m also a fan of Philly, too, so having Phyllis giving Ramona Singer eye signals to Billy and breaking up his non-date-with-benefits with Sally was exactly what we should expect out of her for the next little while. And on that note, I’m also loving the friendship that Sally and Audra have, and doing some real talk about boys and feelings, and Sally teasing Audra when her heart grew three times bigger like the Grinch.

Billy might’ve squeezed Phyllis into his busy schedule between rejecting her and a Silly booty call, but he showed up and was present when she needed, and it’s another reason I’m TeamBilly. Even when the opposition is also TeamBilly, because he’s his own worst enemy.

So Billy has a plan to use Victor’s plan, and take down Victor by making Nikki a failure. Which might be a good idea…except Victor’s plan didn’t exactly work like that, and it ended with Victor buying Chancellor to win. And no matter what Billy does, with or without Phyllis’ help, there’s just no way that he’s going to end up buying back Chancellor. Supposing it even gets that far, I mean, Phyllis hasn’t even said she’s on board. But I sure do hope she does because that just means more chaos, and what’s a soap without the drama.

Either Billy and Phyllis together or Billy and Sally is a win-win for us. Their banters and jabs are balanced with kindness, and Billy’s at his best when he’s doing both. And Billy is always going to need something that gives him a thrill. Whether it’s getting revenge on Victor or being with Sally or Phyllis, or both, I say bring it! At least for a little while. Keeps things lively, and the sarcasm is on point. And if we’re going to do yet another revenge plot against Victor storyline, then Billy is the most fun one, at least compared to his brother.

Let It Go! Let It Go! Let It Go!

Speaking of Jack, we reached an emotional end to that family drama storyline when Kyle realized the error of his ways, had a heart-to-heart with Diane, forgave her, and wanted to move forward as a close, loving family.

Or so we, like Diane, thought. Add this to the list of ways that the Abbotts and the Newmans are different. If you’re Nikki and the previous CEO hasn’t moved out of their office when you arrive, you just tell them to stop what they’re doing, and you’ll have their stuff shipped to them. If you’re Kyle, you pout and assume it means your mom is out to wreck your day and then accuse her of being passive-aggressive when that’s actually what he was doing himself. And just like that, we hit the rewind button and put Kyle back to the place where he’s not over his mommy issues.

And yes, I know what you’re thinking. I can’t be liking Sally and whoever being real about their feelings and then slam Kyle for doing the same thing. But I can, though, and therefore, I shall. I’m a little done with the pouting, to be honest, and Kyle’s either raging or pouting, or in some weird way, both, and it’s gone on too long. And it makes him needy around Claire, which makes me wish she had a villain arc, which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad outcome of it all.

And now we’ll be getting 12 Days of Christmas as they stretch out across the holidays. There are a couple of classic episodes coming up (on Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day), which are always fun to watch, especially the older they are.

I hope you enjoy your own holidays, and thanks for reading! Next week will be the year-end round-up of what the heck did we just witness moments and notable awards — if you’ve got a vote or nomination on any of our favorite GC residents and what they were up to, let me know!

Until next time!
