Kyle (Michael Mealor) has a child with his ex, Summer Newman (Alison Lanier) on The Young and the Restless, and why he wanted to date another Newman, knowing full well the dynamics of that family, has fans scratching their heads. The feud between the Newmans and Abbotts is the stuff of legend, and the infamous “Night of Debauchery” will go down in the annals of history. Am I remembering that correctly

On the Soap Central message boards, user Mikey3130 started it off with, “Says Summer when she tells Claire that Victor was okay with her being with Kyle. I really wanted Claire to respond with "Maybe that's because grandpa doesn't really care about you that much." And how about Kyle stop forcing Claire to interact with Summer. It's clear they don't like each other.”

CouchCruisn’ replied with, “Claire saying that Victor doesn't care about Summer would be a lie. How did Kyle force a Claire/Summer interaction? Claire knew what she was getting herself into when she decided that she wanted to liaise with Summer's ex-husband - with whom she shares a child. That was a recipe for disaster, and she has to deal with it.”

Lulubell added, “I have to agree with a lot of this. Victor absolutely cares about Summer but he will also pit granddaughter against granddaughter to get what he wants. I guess Kyle asked Summer if she wanted to join them, we didn't really see that but it wasn't the best plan. And yes, if Claire and Summer are going to be after the same man, Claire is going to have to play as dirty as Summer. That's just a fact. At this point I wish both Summer and Claire would just dump Kyle. He's the one I have the problem with. IMO, he's not a catch, he's a wimp, he isn't loyal and is treated like a Prince by the whole Abbott family, Sorry for the rant but I'm so over Kyle.”

Zenmaster5 wrote, “Victor indeed cares about Summer, Victor believes Summer can handle herself and that Claire is naive and weak! Victor was saying something along those lines when he was speaking with Nick out at the ranch! Claire indeed knew what she was getting herself into when she decided to get involved with Kyle! Kyle and Summer are parents to Harrison and will always be connected! Summer will always be in the picture which is something that Claire will have to learn to live with or walk away from.”

xoregonian said, “Summer and Clair were both so catty with each other. That was hilarious! Both ladies got in digs to the other. That was fun to watch. Summer hadn't even noticed Kyle when she walked into the coffee shop. It was Kyle who opened his arms and pulled Summer into a hug to comfort her, right in front of Clair (who threw the first eye daggers at Summer right then). Btw, Victor said to Nick that Summer is stronger than Clair. I don't know where you would get that Victor loves Summer less, because that certainly isn't true.

Lulubell made some good points, “The only thing that is bugging me about this is that Summer has said, "If I remember correctly, my grandpa didn't have a problem when we were together" FOUR times. [...] Kyle keeps reminding her it was different when they were together because Victor's opinion of Kyle has changed so Summer just bringing it up over and over is just silly. I'm not really sure Victor would welcome Kyle back with open arms now even if he was with Summer. He'd try to destroy their relationship to. Just my opinion.”

I think we can agree that no Abbott will ever again be accepted into the family by Victor. We are just going to have to watch and see if Kyle and Claire can make it and hope for the best — as hoping for change has less of a chance than The Moustache hugging it out with Jack on The Young and the Restless.
