Mishael Morgan is just one of the actors returning to Genoa City to celebrate The Young and the Restless' 50th anniversary but her return almost didn't happen!
The Young and the Restless fans have been overjoyed by the parade of former Genoa City residents returning to help celebrate the Wisconsin town's 200th birthday. Of course, in the real world, that celebration coincides with Y&R's 50th anniversary.
And while not every star can return to the show, one star who didn't want to miss the big milestone celebration was Emmy winner Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair; ex-Hilary Curtis).
I was flattered and honored to come back for Y&R's 50th anniversary," Morgan told Soap Opera Digest. "It was pretty much an immediate yes for me but I had my agent make sure I didn't have anything else in the pipeline. I was adamant about going back and being there for this moment, so I made it pretty clear that unless Steven Spielberg called, I'm going to Genoa City."

In addition to being part of the big Y&R anniversary celebration, Morgan said that she was also eager to pick up Amanda's storyline because her character had "just disappeared for a few months."
In September, Morgan shared with fans that she had made the decision to "take a bit of a step back from the show." The actress assured fans that she'd continue to appear on a recurring basis.
Since taking that step back, Morgan booked a three-episode arc on Chicago Hope. She would have appeared in even more episodes, but the actress booked the made-for-television movie Sworn Justice. In a fun soapy twist, Morgan's mom in the film was played by Y&R alum Vivica A. Fox (ex-Stephanie Simmons).
Morgan remains open to future Y&R appearances. Had Morgan's extended stay on Chicago Hope been extended, she would not have been able to return for Y&R's anniversary.
"So that worked out perfectly and hopefully it will again in the future," Morgan explained.
Morgan made her Y&R debut in June 2013 as Hilary Curtis. Five years later, the actress stunned fans by walking away from the show. She returned to Y&R in September 2019 to play Amanda Sinclair, a character that turned out to be Hilary's theretofore-unknown twin sister.
