Several cast members from The Young and the Restless recited Maya Angelou's "Equality" in a powerful black and white video to honor Black History Month.

Sony Pictures Television marked Black History Month by sharing videos on its social media feeds that reflect on diversity in America. It's set to do the same thing to honor Women's History Month -- which kicked off today, March 1 -- and chose the cast of The Young and the Restless to create its first post.

"We continue to reflect on #BlackHistoryMonth, and look forward to #WomensHistoryMonth, honoring Maya Angelou with the cast of @YandR_CBS," the TV company shared on Twitter.

The video, which can be viewed below, features several Y&R stars reciting Maya Angelou's poem, "Equality." Participating stars include Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair; ex-Hilary Curtis), Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin), Christel Khalil (Lily Winters), Jordi Vilasuso (Rey Rosales), Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott), Bryton James (Devon Hamilton), Camryn Grimes (Mariah Copeland), Sean Dominic (Nate Hastings), Brytni Sarpy (Elena Dawson), and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers).

Maya Angelou was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry, and she is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees. Her poem "Equality" was published in 1990 and addresses how black women are seen and treated in the eyes of men and calls for an end to gender and racial inequality.

Stars from The Young and the Restless have been very active in bringing attention to racial issues in the past year, with actors like Bryton James and Jason Thompson using their Daytime Emmy Award acceptance speeches to highlight the Black Lives Matter movement and the importance of diversity and inclusion.
