Alicia Coppola, known in the soap opera community as Another World's Lorna Devon, has joined the cast of The Young and the Restless.
The Young and the Restless is getting a blast from the past of sorts with the addition of former Another World star Alicia Coppola (ex-Lorna Devon).
Soap Opera Digest reports the New York-born actress, who left Bay City in 1994 and has racked up a long list of non-daytime credits, has joined the CBS soap as Dr. Meredith Gates and will make her Genoa City debut on Wednesday, April 13.
"They explained a little bit about it and who I would be working with and sent me some material," Coppola told Digest of her initial discussions about the role. "In those 10 pages that I read, it was a really fully fleshed-out female character. I haven't really read something like that in a long time, something that was so dynamic and interesting that I automatically saw a backstory. She reminds me of Lorna. She feels things very deeply, and I just think there's a lot more going on than what's on the surface. I like that."

The casting call for Meredith revealed that the character is "an emotional but professional prison doctor... who hides her emotions behind a veneer of professionalism. She works in the prison infirmary, tending to prisoners, and she is sympathetic to their causes." Hmm...
After leaving AW in the mid-90s, the mother of three went on to star in several films and TV shows, including National Treasure: Book of Secrets, NCIS: Los Angeles, Common Law, Jericho, Cold Feet, and Trinity.
