Y&R's Scott Elrod:  Joe Clark was never given a chance

The Young and the Restless alum Scott Elrod (ex-Joe Clark) opens up about his not-so-surprising exit from Genoa City and his extended Grey's Anatomy role.

Weeks after Scott Elrod last appeared as The Young and the Restless' Joe Clark, the actor has opened up about his final days in Genoa City and admits he wasn't exactly surprised to hear his unpopular alter ego was on his way off the canvas.

In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, the actor reveals that Joe's unlikeable actions had him questioning his future with the show.

"My character was doing stuff that I didn't like. I mean, my God, that guy was an asshole!" he exclaims. "I felt there was something going on, but you never know. They can always turn those things around. They spin stuff in different directions all the time with these characters. Joe Clark was never given a chance."

That doesn't mean, however, that he and the powers that be parted ways on bad terms. Quite the opposite, in fact.

"I met some great people, and it was an enjoyable experience," he shares. "Every job is a stepping stone to the next big job, and what Y&R did for me was give me a level of confidence I didn't have before taking the role."

As fans may recall, Elrod landed a role on Grey's Anatomy just before departing Y&R. And what he thought would be just one episode has since turned into four episodes as Dr. Will Thorpe -- with the possibility of more episodes to come.

"The role of Joe Clark helped me prepare for my role on Grey's Anatomy," he humbly admits. "In the end, Joe being written off the show was a business decision, and there are no hard feelings."
