Y&R to recast Phyllis

Y&R to recast Phyllis

Phyllis Summers will be returning to the canvas, but Michelle Stafford won't be reprising the role. With Stafford now on General Hospital, The Young and the Restless has released a casting call for her former role.

Though it was widely seen as inevitable, The Young and the Restless has confirmed that it will recast the role of Phyllis. The CBS soap has released a casting call for the role formerly played by Emmy winner Michelle Stafford.

According to the description in the casting call, Phyllis is "beautiful, smart and conniving. She is confident in her own sexuality and is unafraid to use it to get what she wants. She knows she has power over men and many times has used it, both to her benefit and to her detriment. She definitely has an edge."

Phyllis has been in a coma and off-screen since Stafford exited Y&R in August. While fans have repeatedly questioned if Stafford would reprise the role, the actress told Soap Opera Digest that she was "completely done" with her Y&R alter ego. There are reports that Y&R did reach out to Stafford about returning to the show.

Stafford has since joined the cast of ABC's General Hospital as Nina Clay. The actress' addition to GH was rumored for more than a year, but Stafford popped up unexpectedly at the end of the May 1 episode. Ironically, Stafford's GH character recently emerged from a coma.

There is no word yet on when Phyllis might make her return, but with the casting call only recently released, it should be well into the summer before any on-screen appearance.
