Eileen Davidson will pop up on The Young and the Restless this fall. The Emmy-nominated actress has signed on for a short-term return to the CBS soap. Davidson announced in July that she had not re-signed her contract with Days of our Lives.
Eileen Davidson (Ashley Abbott) will be returning to The Young and the Restless. The actress, who last month revealed that she had opted not to renew her contract with Days of our Lives, will make a brief appearance on Y&R this fall.
Soaps In Depth reports that Davidson will "be appearing as Ashley for three episodes in late October."
The short engagement marks a homecoming for Davidson, who made her first appearance as Ashley in 1982. In 2007, Davidson crossed over to Y&R's sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, where she played Ashley for six months before returning to The Young and the Restless. In May 2012, Davidson announced on social media that she'd been unexpectedly let go from Y&R. Fortunately, a short time later, Days of our Lives reached out to Davidson and asked her to reprise her role as Kristen Blake.
After a year back in Salem, Davidson revealed last month that she would not be renewing her contract with the NBC soap. Noting that her characters have "a very short shelf life," Davidson expressed her desire to take some time off. When news of Davidson's DAYS exit went public, Angelica McDaniel, the head of CBS Daytime, took to Twitter to dedicate the song "Come On Eileen," by Dexys Midnight Runners to Davidson, a not-so-subtle invitation for the Emmy-nominated actress to return to Genoa City.
While Davidson's current stint is slated to last just three days, the door will reportedly be left open for a more substantial return at a later date. Days of our Lives has also asked Davidson to consider returning for short-term story arcs in the future. Both DAYS and Y&R are distributed by Sony Television.
