Sean Kanan's Deacon returns to Genoa City

Sean Kanan will again bring Deacon Sharpe to The Young and the Restless. Kanan originated the role of Deacon on Y&R's sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, in 2000.

Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe) is returning to The Young and the Restless. Deacon resurfacing in Genoa City may surprise those viewers who expected the character to follow former on-screen love interest Adrienne Frantz (Amber Moore) back to The Bold and the Beautiful.

It was one year ago that Kanan debuted on The Young and the Restless, after previously appearing as Deacon on Y&R's sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, from 2000 to 2005.

Kanan exit The Young and the Restless in January 2010, and the actor's successful run was tarnished by unsubstantiated claims that he'd been fired over performance issues. Kanan vehemently denied those claims as "libelous and not true," and a Y&R executive confirmed that Kanan's run had been envisioned as a short-term gig. It was, however, said that the door would be left open for Deacon to show up again at a later time.

"Deacon may be off for a while until the writers have time to pen [him] a bigger storyline," Kanan said at the time.

Just in case daytime television wasn't enough to keep him busy, Kanan also has two film projects in the works. The actor has signed on to appear in Brian Pickard's Watch Island and SLAYERS! Both films are slated to shoot in New England this year.

In Watch Island, Kanan will tackle the role of Ryan Terriault. For SLAYERS!, Kanan turns the clock back in order to play an 1880s baron.

Kanan makes his Y&R return on July 29.
