The Young and the Restless has a new person in charge of costumes — Mandi Line — who's now dressing all your favorites in Genoa City. Line revealed in a recent interview that she's quite familiar with at least one of the show's actors but it's not necessarily from his Y&R role.
A The Young and the Restless fan girl moment

"I'm gonna be honest," Line told Soap Opera Digest. "Jack Abbott [Peter Bergman] when I met him, all I could think was, 'That's Cliff [Warner, Bergman's role from All My Children, which he played from 1979-89]. That is Cliff and Nina [Taylor Miller]," Do I call my mom? What do I do? I've been waiting for this my whole life!"
Line opted to get her fan girl moment out of the way up front. "There was this moment and this voice in my head that said, 'If you don't say it now, you're never going to say it.' A lot of people play it cool. I am cool, I don't want to play it cool!'"
The costume designer played it cool by simply saying to the three-time Daytime Emmy-winner, "'It's so nice to meet you," Line recalled saying, adding, "'I'm really happy to be here as the costume designer for Young and the Restless, but I need to let you know' [and she added] 'I love you. I really love you. I don't know if you ever loved me back, but Cliff is someone that I grew up watching, and Cliff and Nina and that story just broke my heart.' He's probably heard the same thing before, but there was a little grin on his face and he was like, 'Wow, thank you.'"
Fashion-forward Genoa City

Watch for Line to bring a bit of an edge to fashion in Genoa City. Line will be focusing on not only the women of Y&R, but also the men.
Like most departments in daytime TV these days, Line is working within a budget. She told Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) that they were going for a "Carolina Herrera look." That didn't match the label of the blouse that Thomas Scott tried on though. However, Line made an adjustment, which gave it the right look, impressing Scott. It's all in a day's work for this talented wardrobe pro.
