Last year, Traci’s sister, Ashley (Eileen Davidson), had relied on her friend, Alan Laurent (Christopher Cousins), for therapy in Paris. Through the experience, Traci and Alan got to know one another better and grew close. Eventually, the pair moved into the Abbott mansion together as a couple — the first in years Traci had been seen in a relationship.

“Traci thought that ship had sailed. She thought that she was happy and satisfied with the life that she’d made for herself, with no romantic other. Then Alan came along. It’s a beautiful story to be told,” Maitland explained.

Fans have often been champions of Traci’s relationships, always wanting the character to be happy and be loved. Maitland was paired with some popular leading men in her earlier years on The Young and the Restless. The first man she was engaged to was Danny Romalotti, with whom she would perform on stage. She was married to Steve Connolly for many years, although she’d usually come home to visit and just mention him. But there was also Brad Carlton (Don Diamont), whom she had married twice, and they had a child, Colleen.

How Beth Maitland sees Traci’s future

On The Young and the Restless, Traci had accompanied Ashley to Paris in hopes of getting her memories sorted. She thought she had been abused by her husband, Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John), but it turned out Martin attacked her, Alan’s twin brother. After a series of revelations, Alan and Martin struggled, and Martin was supposedly killed. While it would take a tiny bit of revisionist history, it is possible that Alan is not who we think he is, and he is Martin instead.

That discovery would not only be heartbreaking for Traci but would most likely also be extremely dangerous for her and those around her. In her interview with Woman’s World, Beth Maitland was asked what she thought about the possibility of Alan actually being his brother instead.

Maitland shared that she had mixed feelings about the possible storyline. As an actor, she knew it would be an amazing soapy drama that she would get to play out for viewers if she was actually dating Martin, but for Traci’s sake, she hoped she had found true love in Alan. “I feel like I speak for women of a certain age and represent on television normal women across the world — I was going to say America, but everywhere, really. And I’m just in love with the good twin, so I’m hoping that’s what we get,” Maitland shared.

When it came down to it, Maitland wanted Traci to be happy. “I want everything to turn out great for Traci, for a change. Let the trauma victim for the last 40 years get something good. But this is a soap opera, remember? So we’ll see what happens,” she teased.
