The question of the year was answered on today’s episode of The Young and the Restless: Was it Alan or Martin that Traci was engaged to? We got the answer, but it’s led fans to more questions.

Is it Alan or Martin on The Young and the Restless?

On Thursday, April 10th’s episode of The Young and the Restless, Sharon (Sharon Case) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) managed to badger and scare Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins) into a confession, and he was arrested by Chance (Conner Floyd).

Traci (Beth Maitland) was heartbroken to realize she had been duped by the crazed twin brother of Alan Laurent (Christopher Cousins), who she thought she was engaged to. Ashley (Eileen Davidson) arrived in Genoa City, and within moments of being in the room with her previous attacker, knew that she was not in the presence of her dear friend, Alan, but instead, it was Martin.

Although fans foresaw this scenario coming since last year, now that Martin revealed himself to be pretending to be Alan, some for details are wondering how it was possible, but there is one way that it all makes sense.

The Fall of the Brothers

It all comes down to the moment that Alan and Martin struggled on a balcony, and then took a fall. Martin was wearing a gray shirt, and Alan was wearing a sweater in a similar shade of gray. Martin had Alan hogtied in a closet, but he managed to get himself free just in time to save Ashley, who was being dragged down the hall by Martin.

The two men began to fight, and as Martin claimed he was smarter than Alan and wanted to be an only child, Alan knew he was in for the fight of his life. Their physical struggle made its way to the balcony, and as Tucker (Trevor St. John), Ashley, and Traci watched in horror, they both went over the railing.

Moments later, Alan (or so we all believed because he was wearing the gray sweater) returned to the suite, his arm injured, and claming that he had landed on Martin, which broke his fall and probably saved his life. Martin, however, had died, he reported. They ultimately called the police, who believed their story that it was accidental, given Martin’s psychotic history. At some point that we didn’t see, Alan got a sling for his arm.

So, given that we didn’t see Tucker, Ashley, or Traci look over the balcony and witness it happening, we have to assume that Martin quickly changed shirts with his brother before running back upstairs to instantly start his pretense that he was Alan and that Martin was the twin that died.
