The Young and the Restless comings and goings: Daniel Goddard brings back Cane?

Fans of The Young and the Restless are buzzing with anticipation, waiting for the official word that Daniel Goddard is returning to the show to play Cane Ashby.

In an Instagram video today that he captioned, "Surprise surprise," Daniel Goddard got fans of The Young and the Restless excited when he teased exactly what they wanted to hear: his possible Y&R return to play Cane Ashby. Okay, so what we want to hear was short on confirmation and definitive wording — but Goddard knows what he’s doing.

Sporting Cane’s big grin and a twinkle in his eye, Goddard strolled through a park and revealed, “So I got a phone call the other day from someone I highly admire and respect, and he asked me if I could take a look at something. So here I am walking in the rain. The only problem is…the script is getting wet.” With a grin, Goddard held up a rolled up script.

Of course, the reactions poured in. Some simply wished him well on whatever project he was working on, but others were more soap-specific. Instagram user @maria.fedrigo responded with, “HOPE THIS MEANS Y&R time ?” Follower @angiehansen89 added, “Please be Y&R!!!,” while user @msctc said, “PLEASE tell us that Cane is headed back to Genoa City!”

Other clues around Daniel Goddard’s return

In November on Instagram, Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby) got the attention of his followers when he first hinted at a possible return to The Young and the Restless. Once again, he didn’t actually say the show’s name, he just teased that he had major news that he couldn’t share yet.

In the video, Goddard said, “So I just wanted to reach out and say hello and see how you were doing and tell you that something truly incredible is in the midst. And I cannot wait to share more.”

Goddard captioned the video with, “I’ve missed you. Very much. You’ll never know how much each and everyone of you means to me. There is nothing more powerful than the human connection. Nothing. Family, community and connectivity is the glue that holds us together. Because I said the core of each and everyone of us, is the desire to be understood and loved by people that matter. 🤍”

What brings you town, Cane Ashby?

Soap Central will keep you posted if (when) a confirmed return is happening. While there are many possibilities of what Cane would be doing, such as teaming up with Billy (Jason Thompson), we had a feeling Cane would land in the Nate/Damian (Sean Dominic and Nathan Owens) storyline and be the missing piece of the puzzle to the mystery surrounding the Monte Cristo Holdings and Danglar Properties companies that Damian owns.

Now that we’ll see Nate on Monday’s show, we may have some indication of when he is coming to Genoa City, and maybe Billy will have an idea of what he wants to do next in his career. Either way, we will hopefully soon have an official announcement of Daniel Goddard’s return.
