On The Young and the Restless, actor Nathan Owens was in on the shocking twist about his character. Or, at least, the character he temporarily played. But after viewers got to know him as Damian Kane, he shares his thoughts about his re-introduction as Holden.

Holden or Damian? The Young and the Restless shocker

This week on The Young and the Restless, viewers were shocked to find out that Nate’s long-lost half-brother, Damian Kane, wasn’t actually Damian at all. On Monday’s episode, the real Damian strolled into the park and called the man we thought he was by a different name. It turned out that the real Damian was going to be played by Jermaine Rivers, while Nathan Owens was actually a man named Holden who worked for Damian and was pretending to be him at Damian’s request.

Fans were especially surprised that the show was able to pull one over the way they did. While it was hinted that Damian had secrets, it never occurred to anyone that Nathan Owens wasn’t playing the pivotal character. Owens, however, knew of the surprise before he began filming.

Owens shared in an interview with Soap Opera Digest that he was told once he got the job about the plot twist. “When I was auditioning for it, I actually auditioned for Damian, the real Damian,” Owens explained. He didn’t get the role, but a few weeks later, he had a callback. “I got a call about another option, about being the right-hand man of Damian,” he added. At that point, he found out that he’d be pretending to be Nate's half-brother.

What to expect from Holden in Genoa City

Owens was thrilled to get on the show, but it meant he had to research two roles. “As an actor, I thought a lot about, ‘Okay, what would this boss [Damian] be like, and how would I act as if I was Damian in front of Nate Hastings versus who I am as Holden?’ I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll put on a little bit more of a swag, a bit more of a tone in my voice,’ stuff like that. I added a couple of little things like that — nothing too crazy, but just something like you would typically do when you’re trying to disguise yourself as someone else,” Owen divulged.

Owens promised that viewers would get to know Holden as well. He described his character as “very, very charismatic,” charming — and very single. What does that mean for the hearts in Genoa City? Owens teased, “I would want to tell the fans that they will soon learn that my character has a past with someone in town. And maybe a certain lady. So he will be busy keeping secrets as he settles in and, and as the drama continues.”
