On The Young and the Restless, Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) was in for a surprise when he got a mysterious text from someone named Amy Lewis (Valarie Pettiford). That text led to a meeting, and then Amy showed up in Genoa City with life-changing information: Nate had a half-brother.
Long-time viewers would remember Amy Lewis (then-Stephanie Williams) back when Nathan Hastings, Sr. came to town. At the time, viewers didn’t know that Amy was pregnant with Nathan’s baby when she left town about 40 years ago.

According to Josh Griffith, The Young and the Restless executive producer and head writer, Nate Hastings is about to see his family expand.
In a recent interview, Griffith told Soap Opera Digest, “I’ve been trying to find a way to expand the Winters/Hastings arena, that family, and we were just discussing, ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if we found out that Nate has a half brother?’” After researching the history of the characters in the 1980s, like Nate, Sr. (then-Nathan Purdee), and Amy, they came up with an idea.
“We said, ‘She left at a time when she could have been pregnant after her affair with Nathan.’ It kind of looked like a perfect route to follow, which would lead up to this sibling,” Griffith explained.
What Happens Next on The Young and the Restless
Nate has been in a frowned-upon relationship with Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver). While Nate has seen Audra’s softer, more vulnerable side, her brash and sassy has rubbed most people in Genoa City the wrong way, especially in social settings where she seems to lack a filter. Audra has made it clear to many at Abby’s wedding that she is not the marrying kind, which not only took a shot at the newlyweds but made Nate’s cousins wonder how committed she was to Nate. Will there be a conflict of interest between Nate and Damian in the future? Or will it be Lily (Christel Khalil), who is only related by marriage, have an eye for the newcomer?
This week, Nate is looking to bring his family members closer. When his cousin Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and his new bride, Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway), return from their honeymoon, the two couples get together with Nate’s other cousin, Lily Winters. Nate asks his cousins to give his girlfriend another chance.
Toasting to a new beginning for their family, the cousins are going to try to be closer than ever. They’ve certainly had some rough patches in the past with Devon and Nate being involved with the same women, and their professional lives affected them personally when Nate was involved with Tucker’s (Trevor St. John) attempt to overtake Chancellor. However, they have come full circle now, and working together has helped restore their relationship.
But everything will change when the private investigator informs Nate that Damian has been located.
When Damian joins the family
So far, all that Nate knows about Damian is that he’s a DNA match and what his mother, Amy, has shared. Her version of her son was somewhat vague, as she lost contact with him years ago. However, she described Damian as seemingly unsettled, possibly bitter about the losses in his younger years, and thought he could use Nate as a mentor to give him some direction. Whether or not her assessment is accurate remains to be seen — Damian could be established and confident and not appreciate Nate’s assumptions otherwise.
While Damian is also in the dark about his half-brother’s existence, he is unaware of Amy’s health. She shared with Nate that she was dying. How Damian’s reaction to Amy’s diagnosis and finding out that he is losing the only family he knows may come as a surprise. Will he decide to stay in Genoa City once he discovers he has a new family to get to know?
“It’s going to be a very interesting dynamic to bring in this man who has no idea that Nathan was his father and that Nate is his brother,” Griffith shared in his interview. While casting has yet to be announced, Griffith added, “I can guarantee you that the brother is very handsome — and there’s a double handsome whammy twist coming your way.”
