How To Get Away With Murder: The Young and the Restless Two Scoops for the week of January 13, 2025

What a week on The Young and the Restless when Victor wanted to use his words, Sharon’s back on angel dust, and Claire got the band back together!

Murder most foul on The Young and the Restless

Claire is having quite the day. She went to work, got coffee for Nikki, and thought she heard Jordan ordering her tea, went back to work, met with Kyle afterward, went to the Abbott house and told Harrison about her relationship with Kyle, went back to the coffee house, followed Jordan to the park for a long talk, and then drove out to the ranch and talked for hours with her grandmother and mom about murdering someone. And they’re not done.

When Victor realized he had Ian to contend with again, he said to Michael to get rid of him. Of course, he questioned what he meant. Michael doesn’t do that type of thing anymore, he just judges people that do. Or, defends them if he’s being paid. But even Victor didn’t suggest just killing Ian (at least, not out loud). I have no doubt that he thought it, but he probably knew he’d need help, and there was no one he could trust to help him carry it out. Or, so he thought.

If you recall, The Young and the Restless has a little bevy of murder-minded folks, and they're right under Victor's nose. He came home, and they gave themselves away at hello. Maybe Nikki, Victoria, and Claire can pull off a clean kill, but hide a secret? Not so much.

Anyone want to play poker?

All Victor had to do was say hi while they were weighing out the pros and cons of cold-blooded murder, and they all froze like deer in the headlights. It was rather obvious they were in the middle of something, and they know that Victor thinks everything is his business. Read the room, people — did you not think Victor would listen to see what you’re talking about? It wasn’t dating advice for Claire, it was about killing someone!

So their secret plan isn’t so secret anymore, which is probably a good thing. At least it was Victor and not someone else. But more importantly: Um, Claire?! A year ago the murderous niece of crazy Aunt Jordan was transforming in a psychiatric hospital and finding joy in kids. We spent most of the year watching Claire being the calm, comforting, sympathetic ear to the Abbott’s family drama, the voice of reason to the extremely unreasonable Kyle during his divorce, the healing pillar of stability for Harrison, and the executive assistant who was nervous to return to the job she rocked a year ago. But that was so 2024.

Claire’s escalating “New Year, New Me” to a level we didn’t expect. Jordan’s back? SHe mUst dIE. Okay, so I can understand they're rattled, and yeah, it’s not too comforting to know that she snuck out of prison and no one’s noticed that her not-look-alike is occupying her cell. And she’s right: Jordan will never give up. So yes, I can see how that would be a little bit inconvenient to know you’ve got a murderous stalker who is obsessed with your family showing up again. Not disputing the reasoning…but the way Claire was so calm, so determined, and so okay with all of it was chilling.

When she told Nikki and Victoria they couldn’t talk her out of it and whether or not they helped, she was doing it, I was confused. Is this who Claire really is? When it’s over, will I look at her differently? Does Summer realize who she’s really dealing with? I’ve got questions.

Not all heroes wear capes. Or caps

Someone somewhere, could have been in a Two Scoops…about The Young and the Restless…on Soap Central…maybe…might have said at one point that all Nick is doing is saving Sharon. He doesn’t seem to work, he’s never with his mystery-aged son Christian, he just comes over to Sharon’s and tries to manage or save her. Ok, it might have been me. I’m changing my mind ever so slightly on that.

Nick has actually been the one who’s figured stuff out throughout this crazy ride we’ll call the second half of 2024. Even Ian and Jordan (who called him a meathead) were shocked that out of all people, Nick figured out all of their non-clues. But more than that, he’s the glue. Mariah trauma dumped on him this week and he just sat, listened, assured, and gave this calming presence that, after she freshened up and apologized for freaking out, she acknowledged.

Nick really does hold them all together, whether it’s being Sharon’s voice when everyone just thinks she’s nuts, or protecting her from toxic relationships with Adam, to standing up to his parents and telling them they’ll respect her, Nick covers all the bases. And yeah, sometimes he slips and misses a clue or sounds like Chance, and he’s lucky he works for the family business or he’d be fired by now, but overall, he’s a really decent guy. And while it’s sometimes valid to knock him for dedicating his entire life to being Sharon’s constant hero, he does follow through.

Now, hopefully, he won’t let me down. Next week he’s going to put on some rubber gloves and do investigating stuffs like an investigator would. If he was one, and if that was allowed, and not illegal whatsoever. But it’s take a friend to work week on The Young and the Restless, and Chance and Nick are buds now. When they search Ian’s motel room, they’ll confirm he’s not a solo act, but with Jordan right outside the door, well, obviously, they’ll turn around and see her, right? I mean, they’re playing detective and all, so of course they’ll see the person they’re looking for when she’s standing six feet away in plain sight…right??

The chains that bind

Meanwhile, Sharon’s in a dire circumstance. She’s broken free but running low on water and getting weaker by the moment (keep in mind all week was the same day unless Claire wears that red dress for all occasions). The problem is that water is drugged with PCP, so every time she drinks it, she gets high. Ah, first-world problems.

So she finally stretched herself Dr. Gadget-style to be able to reach a metal rod that happened to be lying nearby. And after some clumsy smacking while narrating herself out loud, she finally dug deep and channeled her inner Claire, and voila, she sprung herself free. The chain is still draped from her wrist, but she’s at least able to walk. Or, she would have been if she wasn’t higher than a kite. So she stood up to put one foot in front of the other and ended up flat on her face. Oh well, maybe next time.

Adam’s new year

Thanks to Connor, Chelsea was convinced to move to the ranch and into the other main house with Adam. But, she’s insisting that it’s platonic, and really, there’s no reason she couldn’t have her own wing. It’s not like the two of them would need to be tripping over one another there if they didn’t want to be. But, everyone keeps telling Chelsea that she wants to be.

And that’s a little confusing. Because yes, for sure, somewhere in her is some hope for change, having her family together for Connor and living happily ever after. But Chelsea took a long time to get to the point of recognizing a toxic relationship and resisting the urge to go back in hopes that somehow the next time would be different. Why is everyone pushing those two together?

What would be more interesting to watch is them just doing what they’re supposed to be doing, co-parenting, and just being better people. Despite what Victoria told Chelsea, Adam has improved slightly, maybe. And don’t even ask me how, they’ve just said it, I’m not sure we actually witnessed it. But they should live separate lives, even if they’re under one roof. And bring in someone new for Chelsea. Nothing predictable. Like…Damian. Someone who isn’t afraid of Adam, and they might even get along, so Connor won’t have to live on the ranch and not always have to worry about the hammer falling. Oh wait, Ian and Jordan are lurking nearby and Victor promised protection. Isn’t that a sure sign of danger?

And speaking of the main house, is that cage still in the basement??

Time will tell what direction we’re going for this year on these storylines and others on The Young and the Restless. There’s actually quite a bit on the horizon, and someone who likes disguises will be sporting a new orange jumpsuit soon. We’ll just have to see how limber Claire is in that red lace dress.
