What a Valentine’s week on The Young and the Restless when…♬ sweet dreams were a made-up tease, who am I to disagree? ♬ We follow the show five days a week, everybody was looking for something…

The Young and the Restless in dreamland

So The Young and the Restless got us again this week. After all these months of wishing it was all just a dream finally came true — but in the most bizarre way. Heather’s still gone, but we got to see what it would look like if Shick or Chadam were together. And I’m going to hope that because they gave us a brief taste of both, neither will actually happen.

And here’s why. There’s got to be a reason they moved Chelsea and Adam onto the ranch. Aside from “the ice broke, and Connor fell into the pond” when playing hockey, or Chelsea falls off a horse and is in a wheelchair and needs Adam to care for her, what else could there be? Sharon is their neighbor, and Adam has a soft spot for Sharon. There could be the potential for Sharon and Adam to grow closer. Nick has been making comments to Chelsea that could be taken as if he cares enough to be interested in the future. And let’s face it, he’s kind of overdue for a romance — he’s been single for a long time. And then they could SORAS Christian (or turn back time, I kind of forget how old he is at this point), so Chelsea and Nick are in love, but their sons don’t get along and bring the drama. I guess if all else fails, Adam and Chelsea have a cage in their basement that they probably don’t know about.

Phyllis and Billy though, that’s another story. Definitely, they’re leading up to some tension between Billy and Sally about Phyllis. And given Phyllis’ dream, it seems she’s subconsciously interested in Billy after all, despite denying it to Daniel. As much as I like Silly…Philly is just more entertaining. Or they were years ago, in a really toxic way.

Victor’s met his match

It’s kind of funny to me that Victor nearly died a couple of days ago (in Genoa City time), but he’s home within hours and already back on schedule to destroy Jack. But what’s even odder is this perception he has of Claire.

Victor told Nick that Claire was innocent and naive. Is this the same Claire who thought up a murder plot of her aunt — on the spot — that was detailed, had roles for her grandmother and mother to play, and carried it out mere hours later? The “girl” that looked Nikki and Victoria square in the eye and said matter-of-factly that she was going to murder Jordan and no one would stop her, and then proved it? While we could spend the same amount of minutes that Nikki and Victoria did weighing out the murder plan’s merits, the point is that Claire is hardly innocent or naive.

In fact, just hours (if that) after killing the woman who raised her without blinking an eye, Claire stood with the other Newmans in front of a gun-toting, fired-up Ian Ward. And what did she do? She walked toward him, challenging him on his POV that Jordan was his girlfriend. With a gun pointed at her, she smirked and said that Jordan didn’t care about him at all. The guy was broken-hearted, sociopath-style, that he’d just lost who he thought was his girlfriend and partner in crime. He’d come home with a rose in his hand, ready to make up, and instead found Michael in his room, who told him Jordan was dead.

Surely after all her training, Claire could tell that Ian was a loose cannon who meant what he said about killing them all before the night was over. But she just stepped forward and challenged him, like she was taunting him. Innocent and naive? Nope.

And then there’s Summer. She’s also underestimated the competition. Okay, so yes, this is Claire’s first romantic relationship, and yes, she is innocent and naive in experience with love (of any kind up until a year ago). But again, they need to stop underestimating her. Claire might not have had as many lovers (or even dinner dates) as Summer, but she knows how to read people. And if Summer doesn’t think Claire is one step ahead of her when it comes to Kyle, her manipulative cousin had better watch out.

Bring Your Self to Work Day

Nick remembered he had a job this week, and even had a pseudo-business meeting with Victoria so they could get caught up on “stuff.” Does anyone remember what his job actually is?

And Daniel decided on taking the job with no description at Abbott Communications. What exactly do they communicate there? At least Adam works for Newman Media and it gives some context. I honestly have no idea what kind of company Chancellor Industries is, and Newman Enterprises has had so many subsidiaries, I’m not even sure what their goal is anymore. And now that I think about it, what does Winters do?

But anyway, Daniel is on board, or ‘all-in’ as Billy would say, but even he, as the guy who just hired Daniel from another continent had to ask Daniel’s mom what his job would be. Great start to the launch of the latest Genoa City-based international conglomerate.

Maybe they’ll stick around after all

Lily's first impression of Damian on The Young and the Restless | Image: JPI

Damian and Holden decided to bolt out of Genoa City to go back to L.A. and deal with some major issues they left behind. But…screech the brakes…female distractions just popped up. As predicted, Damian’s eye was caught by Lily. And no, they are not related, at least not by blood. Nate and Lily are related by their mother’s being siblings. But only Nate is related to Damian. Lily’s dad is a Winters, Damian’s dad was a Hastings, and the two are not related at all. So this contempt Lily already feels for the guy she doesn’t know will eventually turn into lust or love?

Except…dun dun dun…I have not given up on the return of Cane. Like, at all. Stick with me here…maybe the person that Billy was on the phone with in Paris in the middle of the night (when he gave them an update on Abbott Comm and asked them to deep dive for intel on what Nikki’s been up to since taking Chancellor back) is Cane?

And, what if the “trouble” that Damian and Holden are having in L.A. is also Cane-related? So many possibilities for Mr. Ashby to return.

Holden onto a secret

Oh my, Audra, you are a sly one, aren’t you?! She didn’t bat an eye when Holden walked into Nate’s apartment pretending to be Damian. Not once, but twice she just did the wide-eyed innocent look, was polite and left. Meanwhile, she’s getting closer to Amy and still not saying a word that all the time they’re wasting time she doesn’t have with “Damian.”

Which, okay, I get it. It’s a secret that she knew Holden and doesn’t want anyone to know, but she didn’t even try to contact him since seeing him at Nate’s the first time? She could have gone to the Athletic Club and at least looked to see if he was there to ask him what’s up.

And somehow Holden was involved with Tucker? Wait…is THAT who Billy’s talking to? It feels like ever since Heather died and we were wondering if it was real, everything is up for grabs now. Jack and Diane’s public fights and break up, Sharon and Nick reconciling at Crimson Lights, Damian isn’t Damian, Audra actually knew Damian wasn’t Damian. Everything is just bonkers when it comes to predictability these days, and they got us so good with Holden and Damian that now I’m questioning everything all the time — and loving it!
