Chance (Connor Floyd) is often criticized by the fans and viewers of The Young and the Restless for his methods of police work in Genoa City, but is he really that bad? Ok, sometimes he takes a while to get going, and sure, he misses what we at home would say are pretty big clues, but it can’t be easy doing his job while being so closely involved with the key players in GC. The Newmans lied to him about how Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk) met her end, and they always edit whatever Victor (Eric Braeden) has done to protect his family when telling the story to Chance.

When Sharon (Sharon Case) was kidnapped by Ian Ward (Ray Wise) and Aunt Jordan, his teaming up with Nick (Joshua Morrow) was likened to the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin from the 1960s TV series — but not in a good way. Fans and viewers visited the Soap Central message boards to discuss Chance as a cop.

“I can't believe Chance is taking his time to enter the building, wasting precious time to save Sharon and Phyllis. Usually, cops just shoot down the door and bust in and start searching the building, but he's taking his sweet time, and it took Nick and Billy to talk some sense into him. I think Chance should go back to the corporate world,” wrote YRFANATIC.

SC member littleliz chimed in, “He’s very cautious and not a bulldozer like Nick. Cops do have rules to follow. It’s not all guns blazing! Anyone could have been inside. He did the right thing in my opinion. With the gas too, [the] gun would have set off [an] explosion. Chance deserves credit.”

“Nick and Billy were RIDICULOUS, snarling 'n snapping like manic dogs Not usually a fan of Chance's "policing," but he was following procedure by obtaining a warrant and awaiting intel from the building owner--before just busting in to only goodness knows what or who was inside! He was exercising due caution. Imagine if they'd burst in and shot the door to open it. They'd've blown Sharon, Phyllis, and themselves sky high!” added Soapfan54.

Sweetpd7 noted, “To be fair, Nick kept Chance from shooting open the door. But other than that, spot on. I get that Nick and Billy were worried out of their minds, but they were really nasty and disrespectful to Chance, who was only trying to do his job as a policeman. I am glad it worked out. Give Chance a girl [friend] who isn’t connected to the Newman’s/ Abbotts, not like Abby, Sharon and Summer. He is a great guy and dealing with those families is going to make Chance prematurely gray! Maybe Sally or Lily. Either would make a pretty couple.”

So whether you think Chance is a good cop or not, you have to give the guy credit for working under the conditions he has done for years — everyone gets involved in his policing. For now, on The Young and the Restless, he has his work cut out for him, following up on the clues left behind after the rescue of Sharon and Phyllis from the abandoned asylum. We at home know that Alan had the image of the room with Sharon and Phyllis locked up on his cell phone, but the burning question is, is it Alan or Martin? To the Batmobile, Robin!
