Kyle told Claire that because Harrison was back in school, they needed to revisit their arrangement. Kyle said he didn’t want to prevent Claire from doing other things. Claire said that Nikki had offered her a job as Nikki’s assistant, but Claire wasn’t sure where, when, or if it was even something she wanted. Kyle questioned if Nikki was returning to Newman Media and Adam would no longer be in charge, but Claire didn’t know any details.
Kyle told Claire that he knew that Harrison needed her. Kyle said he wasn’t trying to talk Claire into leaving, but he also didn’t want to hold her back. Claire said she wouldn’t leave Harrison until things were resolved between Kyle and Summer. Claire noted that Summer and Kyle both seemed optimistic that they were working out a compromise for custody of Harrison.
Kyle wanted Claire to know he would miss her if she left her position. He asked if they would still be friends if Clarie stopped working for him. He said he would like to go for dinner and to the movies with Claire but thought people might get the wrong idea. Claire said she didn’t care what people thought, and she would like to spend time with him outside of work.
At Abbott-Chancellor, Chance told Billy his name was also on the building. He scolded Billy for firing Lily. Chance said he wondered if Billy would do the same to him. Chance said being loyal didn’t mean being a yes man, and Chance didn’t want to be collateral damage to one of Billy’s whims.

Chance told Billy that he had talked to Jill, and she was worried about her company and her son. Chance said he was obligated to protect the company's legacy, and he wanted to protect Jill from stress. Chance suggested that effective immediately, he would be co-CEO.
Chance told Billy that although he was new to the corporate world, he had run the police force. Chance pointed out that Billy wanted a partner and didn’t want to do it alone. Billy said he would consider the suggestion. Chance reiterated that he wasn’t interested in a power grab or being in the spotlight.
“I’m content to just have your back,” Chance said. He added that he and Billy would revisit the partnership when Jill returned, but he wanted to protect the company. “And by extension, that means protecting you,” Chance said. Billy asked what Chance would do if Billy said no. Chance replied that he would tell Billy goodbye and good luck.
Billy told Chance he admired the risk Chance had taken with the partnership idea, and Billy said he would seriously consider it. When he asked Chance to draw up a five-year plan with projections of where he saw Chancellor in the future, Chance surprised Billy by reporting that he had already done a ten-year proposal. “Look at it. I’m the perfect man for the job,” Chance said as Billy’s thoughts wandered to remembering the day he'd fired Lily.
Lily saw Jack at Society and shocked him when she told him that Billy had fired her. Jack told Lily that he thought Billy had made a monumental mistake, and he said he would talk to Billy. They agreed that Billy was trying to prove himself to the world, but Jack said it was an affront to his father that Billy had added the Abbott name to the company.
Several times, Lily implied that Billy’s failure was inevitable. Jack asked her if she knew something. Lily carefully said that the company was more vulnerable with Billy at the helm, and she asked Jack to watch out for his brother so Billy wouldn’t get hurt.
Victor brought Nikki up to speed after his meeting with Lily. Nikki was surprised to hear that Lily had proposed an alliance to take down Billy. Nikki said Lily was in way over her head to think that she could negotiate with Victor. Nikki realized that Lily expected to be CEO of Chancellor after the takeover.
Nikki told Victor that Lily deserved a position at the company, but Nikki wanted to be CEO. Victor said there was nothing wrong with making Lily believe that she could get what she wanted. Nikki and Victor invited Lily over, and she asked if they had a deal. Victor said that before he agreed to be allies, he needed to know what kind of inside information Lily had that would be useful.
Jack went to Billy’s office and admonished him for firing Lily. Billy said that he was not going to listen to anyone who was convinced that he was doomed to fail. “Why don’t you support me and do right by the two names that this company bears?” Billy snapped, and he ordered Jack to get out.
