All My Children, Port Charles alum Brian Gaskill joins The Young and the Restless

Multi-soap vet Brian Gaskill will join the cast of The Young and the Restless later this month as a new character that interacts with Nikki Newman.

Brian Gaskill will make his debut on his fifth daytime soap later this month when he joins the cast of The Young and the Restless.

The CBS soap is keeping much of the detail about Gaskill's new role a secret, but Soap Central was able to do some digging, and here's what we've learned.

Gaskill will play the role of Seth. Long-time soap fans know that there are usually two reasons why a character is known only by a single name. The first? The show hasn't quite fleshed out all the long-term plans for the character. The second? The show has thought about story ideas for the character, and revealing that last name would ruin an upcoming plot twist.

In story, Gaskill will cross paths with Melody Thomas Scott's Nikki Newman at a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous.

From 1995 to 1997, Gaskill appeared as spoiled rich boy Bobby Warner on ABC's All My Children.

While All My Children introduced Gaskill to the daytime audience, it was another ABC soap -- Port Charles -- that made him a household name. Gaskill appeared as Rafe Kovich on the 30-minute Port Charles from August 2001 through the series' cancellation in October 2003. The PC role was supposed to have been short-term, but viewers and network execs were pleased with Gaskill's work, and the actor soon became a central player on the show.

A role on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2003 was supposed to be another starring role for Gaskill. However, the show ran out of storyline for Gaskill's character, Oscar Marone, and by the summer of 2004, Gaskill and the show parted ways.

Gaskill also had short-term appearances as BJ Green on As the World Turns and Dylan Shayne Lewis on Guiding Light.

Gaskill isn't expected to stick around Y&R long -- at least not at this time. He'll make his first of what the show says are several appearances beginning Monday, January 8.
