New comedy role for Y&R's Justin Hartley

As The Young and the Restless prepares to welcome a new Adam, Y&R's former Adam Newman, Justin Hartley (ex-Adam Newman), is set to star in The Exchange, a Dan Mazer-directed 1980s high school comedy film.

Justin Hartley is going to be one busy man in the months ahead. Hot on the heels of wrapping the third season of This Is Us, the former daytime star (ex-Adam Newman, The Young and the Restless; ex-Fox Crane, Passions) has landed a role in the comedy film The Exchange.

Helmed by Dan Mazer and inspired by the director's own high school days, the coming-of-age flick is set in the 1980s and follows a socially awkward but highly enterprising teenager who decides to acquire a "mail order best friend" that he thinks will be a sophisticated exchange student from France. Instead, as reported by Deadline, the student accidentally ends up importing his personal nightmare: a cologne-soaked, chain-smoking, sex-obsessed youth who quickly becomes the hero of his new community.

Hartley joins Avan Jogia and Ed Oxenbould in the film, which is currently shooting in Canada. Further details regarding Hartley's character have yet to be released, but he took to Twitter to tease "fun stuff ahead."

Mazer's directorial credits include Dirty Grandpa and I Give It a Year, which he wrote. He also wrote the scripts for Bridget Jones's Baby and Office Christmas Party.
