New Crap Date song "Genoa City Blues" pays homage to Y&R's first episode

New synth-pop band Crap Date just released their first single, "Genoa City Blues," which they say is about the first episode of The Young and the Restless.

Everybody loves some good ol' classic soap opera. But emerging new wave synth-pop duo Crap Date love it so much, they're cashing in on it with their first single, titled "Genoa City Blues."

According to Crap Date member Marcel Bellv, the sappy debut song draws inspiration from one of the longest-running CBS Daytime soap operas.

"It's about the first episode of The Young and the Restless. But it's satire so we're not paying any royalties. Everything Crap Date does is satire... for future reference," Bellv reveals. "From what [Crap Date's other half Jamie Lee Smith] told me, it's about two swingers who don't know what they are doing and one of them has a concussion."

Crap Date took to Instagram with a teaser video of "Genoa City Blues" that features several clips from Y&R's first episode, which aired in 1973.

"Ain't it a drag living in a town like Genoa City? God, I feel so Young... & Restless," the duo captioned the teaser clip.

Apparently, "Genoa City Blues" is just one of many Crap Date songs that poke fun at, well, crappy dating experiences, hence the duo's name.

"We're a dumb band who write songs that involve some kind of crap date scenario, whether it's a girl falling in love with the alien doctor currently operating on her, or your house party that we aren't coming to," says Bellv, adding: "The two of us have been talking about our music as 'soapwave' because of the soap opera aesthetic we're tapping in to, so you can expect there to be lots of clichs and idiot plots all the way through."
