Y&R's Michael Masini joins Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor in DC Comics film

Michael Masini (ex-Tony Kingsman, The Young and the Restless; ex-Joey, Passions) will join Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor in the Warner Bros. Harley Quinn spinoff film Birds of Prey.

Soap opera alum Michael Masini (ex-Tony Kingsman, The Young and the Restless; ex-Joey, Passions) is joining the DC Comics universe. The actor has signed on to Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) opposite Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor.

The film will follow Robbie in the role of Harley Quinn, who splits up with the Joker and bands together with three other female superheroes -- Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) -- to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord. McGregor will be playing the role of mafia kingpin Black Mask.

Variety doesn't report which character Masini will be playing in the film, which is being directed by Cathy Yan, but his IMDb page lists his role as Officer Drago.

"Fun to be a part of this one!" Masini shared on social media. "Birds of Prey coming at ya in 2020."

Says Robbie of the film, which is a spinoff from 2016's Suicide Squad: "I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, 'Harley needs friends.' Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film. She's got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it."

Masini got his start in the entertainment industry as Joey the bartender on Passions, a recurring role he played from 2005 to 2007. He went on to appear in television series like The Agency, The Cadillac Crew, Modern Family, and Rebel before returning to his soap roots as Y&R's shady attorney Tony Kingsman earlier this year. Masini also recently took on the role of Keith Hayes in the CW's reboot of the 1980s soap opera Dynasty.
