Former head writer and EP Josh Griffith returns to Y&R

The Young and the Restless has welcomed back former head writer Josh Griffith, but in what capacity?

The Young and the Restless is getting a blast from the past, but this time, the return is happening behind the scenes: former head writer Josh Griffith has returned to the CBS soap opera -- but not in the writing room.

A rep for Y&R confirms that Griffith, who left Genoa City back in 2013 due to "irreconcilable differences," has returned to his old stomping grounds as a producer.

As fans may recall, Griffith originally joined Y&R back in 2006 as a consultant who later became a part of the writing team and eventually replaced Maria Arena Bell as head writer in 2012. After leaving the series, he served as co-head writer of Days of our Lives alongside Dena Higley for a brief time in 2015.

Griffith's executive producer experience includes positions on Hollywood Heights, 13 Bourbon St., and Y&R. His writing credits include DAYS, Y&R, General Hospital, As the World Turns, One Life to Live, Sunset Beach, Santa Barbara, and Hollywood Heights.

At this time, it remains unclear how Griffith's return to Y&R might affect current executive producer and head writer Mal Young's positions, if at all. Stay tuned for more details as this story develops.

This is just one in a flurry of changes announced at The Young and the Restless in the last 24 hours. First, Christel Khalil announced that she would be going off-contract at Y&R; then, newcomer Alice Hunter was tapped to play the new role of Kerry Johnson; and finally, the show hired Sasha Calle to round out the new Rosales family.
