TLC cancels Kelly Sullivan series Too Close to Home

Too Close to Home, starring The Young and the Restless and General Hospital alum Kelly Sullivan (ex-Sage Warner; ex-Kate Howard), has reportedly been axed by TLC.

Despite a relatively successful launch that led to a season two renewal, TLC's Too Close to Home -- which starred The Young and the Restless and General Hospital alum Kelly Sullivan (ex-Sage Warner, Y&R; ex-Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri, GH) -- has been canceled.

A rep for the network confirms that the soapy Tyler Perry-created series will not see a third season. The show also no longer appears on the TLC website.

Perhaps part of the reason Too Close to Home hit the chopping block is due to it being quite a different type of series for TLC; the show was the network's first scripted programming in a sea of reality series like 90 Day Fianc and My 600-lb Life. Another reason could be the multi-year contract Perry signed to develop series for Viacom's BET network.

Too Close to Home followed a White House intern named Anna who was caught sleeping with the President of the United States and forced to return to her small hometown of Happy, Alabama. Sullivan played Anna's sister, Bonnie.

Despite pulling in an impressive 4.2 million viewers during its season one premiere in 2016, critics often slammed the drama series for being one of the worst shows on television. One TV Line critic went so far as to describe it as the "creative equivalent of a train wreck making love to a dumpster fire, then slapping a man bun on top for good measure."

Sullivan played GH's Kate and Connie from 2011 to 2014 and Y&R's Sage from 2014 to 2016. She currently appears in the film Roman J. Israel, Esq., now in theaters.
