Y&R's Michael Damian is back with another High Strung movie

The Young and the Restless' Michael Damian (ex-Danny Romalotti) is back in the director's chair for High Strung: Free Dance, the follow-up to last year's surprise hit film High Strung.

It looks like The Young and the Restless alum Michael Damian (ex-Danny Romalotti) is on the verge of having a successful movie franchise. After the success of last year's film High Strung, production on the sequel is already underway.

The official High Strung Twitter account sent out tweet announcing that "... the editing begins" along with the hashtag "#highstrungfreedance."

High Strung: Free Dance will follow a talented contemporary dancer and an innovative classical pianist as they join the cast of an international live tour called Free Dance. The contemporary dancer will be played by Juliet Doherty. British actor Harry Jarvis will play the pianist. The film has filmed in Europe and New York City over the past few months.

Work on the original High Strung film took over a year and a half, according to Damian, who served as a producer, director, writer, and editor on the project. But when everything fell into place, he tells Soap Central that the finished product exceeded their expectations.

"It surpassed [our expectations], and we had really super high expectations," Damian said at the time. "Landing the incredible leads that we got, Keenan Kampa is one of the most amazing ballerinas in the world. She's the only American ever to be accepted to the Mariinsky Ballet Company of Russia, and finding someone like that? She's extraordinary, so you're going to see world-class ballet in the movie. Dave Scott, one of the most amazing choreographers who's done Step Up, So You Think You Can Dance, You Got Served, Stomp the Yard, some of the great legendary dance movies. The beautiful and talented Jane Seymour to play the tough-love teacher. And Nicholas Galitzine, who I can't wait for America to see, is a young British up-and-comer. He was just voted Star of Tomorrow in the UK, and he's this really deep, really wonderful actor who plays Johnnie. So we've got some really great people in the film. And 65 dancers that we found all over the world, so that was amazing. The songs are incredible. We have 13 dance numbers in the movie, and so we have all these different songs, and putting that soundtrack together was amazing. I can't wait for the soundtrack to come out, as well. It was quite an experience."

The original High Strung follows a hip-hop violinist busking in the New York subway who encounters a classical dancer on scholarship at the Manhattan Conservatory of the Arts -- and sparks fly. With the help of a hip-hop dance crew, they must find a common ground while preparing for a competition that could change their lives forever.

High Strung is available on DVD and on streaming services like Amazon Prime Video. The soundtrack is also available for purchase and streaming.

While no release date has been announced, the second High Strung: Free Dance film is expected to be released sometime in 2018.
