Steve Burton to stay put on Y&R for another year

Steve Burton has extended his stay with The Young and the Restless. The Emmy-winning actor joined Y&R in 2013 after a lengthy run as Jason Morgan on General Hospital.

In the past year, The Young and the Restless has lost some of its fan-favorite performers. Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy) will not be added to that list. The actor recently revealed that he's inked a new contract with Y&R.

"I've re-signed for a year, and I'm very happy," Burton told CBS Soaps In Depth.

In August 2012, citing a need for a break from the daily grind of producing a soap and a desire to spend more time with his Nashville-based family, Burton announced his exit from General Hospital. A few months later, CBS confirmed Burton's addition to The Young and the Restless with a splashy confetti-filled appearance on The Talk.

At The Young and the Restless, Burton was reunited with executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, who had previously helmed General Hospital. Burton acknowledged that his friendship with Phelps was also a key factor in his decision to join Y&R.

"We're good friends, and I have great respect for her," Burton offered during his initial signing with Y&R.

During his more than 25 years in daytime, Burton has earned five Daytime Emmy nominations. He took home the trophy in 1998 for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his work on GH.
