Hartley met with The Young and the Restless' executive producer Jill Farren Phelps and CBS Daytime head Angelica McDaniel to talk about the Adam role and "came away feeling very excited."
The actor admits to being a little nervous about taking over a high-profile character on the top-rated soap opera.
Hartley began his daytime career in 2002 on the supernatural NBC soap Passions. He's also appeared in primetime on Revenge, Mistresses, and as the Green Arrow on Smallville.
It will still be a few months before viewers get to see Hartley on-screen. He will first report to work in September and pop up on-screen during November Sweeps. Hartley succeeds Emmy nominee Michael Muhney, who exited the role earlier this year and just last week shared that he would not be returning to the CBS soap.
"I really like Justin Hartley. He's a good guy. We really get along well. I wish him the best," Muhney wrote on Twitter after the news of Hartley's hiring was announced. "Be kind to him. #goodguy"
In turn, Hartley took to Twitter to thank Muhney for his kind words.
"A thank you to Michael Muhney for the well wishes. Very much appreciated," Hartley replied. "Thank you."
Hartley walked the Red Carpet at the Daytime Emmys earlier this year with girlfriend Chrishell Stause (Jordan Ridgeway, Days of our Lives) and Soap Central has an exclusive interview with the pair that you can watch just below this article.Hartley will first air on November 5.
