With Rylan out, Y&R recasts Abby Newman

Genoa City won't be without Abby Newman for long: The Young and the Restless has cast Melissa Ordway as its new Abby. As previously reported, Emme Rylan has left the show to take on a role on ABC's General Hospital.

Actress Emme Rylan (Abby Newman; previously known as Marcy) may have decided to exit her role on The Young and the Restless to tackle a new one on General Hospital, but that doesn't mean that Y&R will be without Abby. Just a matter of hours after Rylan's departure was confirmed, news of an Abby recast surfaced.

According to Daytime Confidential's Jamey Giddens, Y&R has tapped Hollywood Heights star Melissa Ordway as its new Abigail.

While the speed of the recast may have caught some fans by surprise, it shouldn't be too shocking that the CBS soap hired a Hollywood Heights alum. It has done so in the not-so-distant past: Haley Hunter King was cast as Summer Newman in October 2012.

There's a reason for the apparent Y&R/Hollywood Heights synergy: Y&R's executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps, and head writer, Josh Griffith, both worked on the Nick At Nite primetime soap before joining Y&R last year. Hollywood Heights, like The Young and the Restless, is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Ordway will first air on Y&R on April 22. For more information on Rylan's addition to the General Hospital cast, click here.
