Daytime veteran Andrea Evans is returning to The Young and the Restless, a show she appeared on for a couple of years in the 1980s. However, she won't be returning to the same role. Evans is also known for her work on One Life to Live and Passions.

Emmy-nominated daytime veteran Andrea Evans will return to The Young and the Restless next month, Soap Central has learned. Evans previously appeared on the CBS soap in the early 1980s as Patty Williams.

Current Y&R viewers, of course, know that Patty is already on-screen and is being played by an actress other than Evans. In March 2009, Stacy Haiduk first appeared as Mary Jane Benson, a character that later turned out to be Patty. So is Haiduk's character a fraud that will be exposed by the return of the real Patty?

While anything is possible in Genoa City, that's not going to be the case. According to Michael Logan of TVGuide Magazine, Evans will be reprising the role of Tawny Moore, a role she played on Y&R's sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, from 1999 to 2000. If the last name looks familiar, there's a reason for it. Tawny is the so-called "trashy" mother of Amber Moore.

Published reports state that Evans' return will help usher Emmy winner Adrienne Frantz (Amber Moore) off the canvas. There is also speculation that Frantz could end up back on The Bold and the Beautiful. A Y&R spokesperson declined to comment on Frantz's status with the show.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the magazine, Evans called the first face-to-face meeting with her former alter ego "really strange."

"Not only did Patty have surgery to completely alter her face, she's also an entire foot taller these days," Evans told TVGuide with a laugh. "Apparently, if you want some really strange plastic surgery, Genoa City is the place to go!"

Evans began her daytime run in 1978 as Tina Lord on ABC's One Life Life. She earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for her work in 1988 in the Outstanding Ingnue (now Younger Actress) category. Evans also appeared for eight years on NBC's Passions as Rebecca Hotchkiss.

Evans will appear in a one-day spot on May 12.
