“And so it begins…It’s been a minute, but it’s time to get back to it. My gratitude could not be any deeper to the Soap Opera icon (and my dear friend) @michelevaljean for your vision, courage and joy in creating this groundbreaking project. The first new soap in over 20 years, y’all!” That was Karla Mosley’s Instagram post in September. The actress will be playing Dani Dupree on the new soap Beyond the Gates, so let’s find out who she is.
She’s bringing a great resume to the other side of the gates
Dani Dupree is the daughter of Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie), as well as the sister of Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix). Mosley is beyond excited to be part of this new soap which is the first one since the premiere of Passions in 1999.
Moseley then thanked everyone involved in the production on her post, and Duplaix responded, “Can not wait to play with such phenomenally amazing talents like you and @msttunie. This is going to be soooooo much fun!!!”
This won’t be Mosley’s first foray into the soap opera world. She played Christina Moore on Guiding Light from 2008 to 2009. A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts, Mosley has been in several TV shows, including Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Castle, among many others, and the films Men in Black 3 and Follow Your Heart are just a smattering of the movies she’s appeared in.
Mosley’s biggest soap credit to date was as Maya Avant on The Bold and the Beautiful. Maya was one of the first transgender characters portrayed in a lead part on a soap and was involved with Rick Forrester (Jacob Young). Mosley is also an accomplished singer and songwriter, and some of her music has been used in B&B.
She collaborated with B&B executive producer and head writer Brad Bell, as well as with co-star Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter) on a web show that was ancillary to the main one called Room 8. In 2014, Moseley was nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series for The Bold and the Beautiful.
She’s also done a lot of philanthropic work including being one of the board of directors for the homeless and runaway service, Covenant House. She also helped to found the Philanthropic Chair of Ammunition Theater Company.
Beyond the Gates creator, Michele Val Jean, responded to Mosley’s Instagram post by writing, “I’m just beyond. Love you so much and let’s do this! ❤❤,” to which the actress replied, “@michelevaljean ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Beyond the Gates will premiere on Monday, February 24, 2025, on CBS at 2 pm EST.
