On The Young and the Restless, the mysterious Aristotle Dumas is the silent, invisible owner behind the businesses that Damian Kane manages. But who is he, and what does he want with Genoa City?

Well, it seems to be clear we can at least be sure that Aristotle Dumas is not his real name, The book The Count of Monte Cristo was written by Alexandre Dumas and that just so happened to be the favorite storybook of Damian Kane (Jermaine Rivers). And if it’s not just Damian running things and pretending that this shadowy figure is controlling things behind him, then it has to be someone else.

We don't believe The Young and the Restless is about to introduce another new face to the show, so that means...dun dun dun…it's someone we already know. Sherlock Holmes is famously quoted as saying, “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” We could go down this cast list with a fine toothcomb and systematically eliminate every single one, so that leaves a past cast member and the opportunity to return — Cane Ashby.

Fans and viewers have been discussing this very thing on the Soap Central message boards. Let's dive in and see what the home sleuths have come up with.

Could Aristotle Dumas be The Young and the Restless' Cane Ashby?

Regular contributor bailey1995 wrote, “KANE: Is this his way to try to get back into Lily's life by hiring Damien to find out information? Or is he out for revenge on the Winters?”

Good Kitty said, “We learned today the mysterious Aristotle Dumas lives in Washington DC. He’s assumed a pseudonym based on a French Haitian author and has been a mentor to the equally mysterious Damian Kane. Realistically Mr. Dumas more likely travels in the social circle of the Duprees of The Gates than the feckless, frequently unemployed Australian, Cane Ashby.”

“It sounded to me like Victor has known of this man for many years. Doesn't seem like that could be Cane to me.” …World Turner

Soap Central ready xoregonian replied to Good Kitty with, “Yes, we learned that and more. It was said Dumas is a recluse billionaire that Victor has been curious about for years. Then Victor said, "If he even really exists." It's certainly not Cane freaking Ashby. I'm sure we all got the DC reference and associated it with BTG. The mystery continues.”

Regular contributor zenmaster5 wrote, “I also don't believe it is Cane, he would be too young in my opinion and with Victor, Nikki and even Michael knowing about Aristotle Dumas, I am thinking he is an older gentleman!”

So it appears we are alone here, at least when it comes to believing it’s Cane. We would also love to see a crossover with Beyond the Gates and The Young and the Restless and have someone in those circles be the one behind Danglar and Aristotle. Indeed, the Duprees are wealthy enough to have this sort of influence.
