Welcome to the Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:

What Happened on Beyond the Gates

Oh, lawdy, Martin, I hope you have a shovel and a strong back. You're going to need them if you plan on digging your way out of this one. Beyond the Gates had me smiling today. I love a bit of drama; who doesn't? It’s why we’re here. Remember the awards dinner for Nicole? And a man came up to Martin asking about Smitty coming back to work, and Martin told him in triplicate, signed, sealed, and delivered that no, Smitty was not and would not be interested in coming back to work. That guy — bald head, glasses, etc. — is the same man who was at the diner nearby, where Martin and Smitty were being cutesy about ordering food. Upon seeing this man and remembering where he had met him, Martin hid behind his menu; it’s a menu, Martin, not a riot shield. And here comes Beyond the Gates signature moment. Well, Smitty spots the guy and instantly recognizes him as an ex-colleague. Smitty called him over to their table, and this is where I started really enjoying it. The guy then told Smitty how Martin had told him categorically that Smitty wasn't interested in getting back into investigative journalism. Wow, Martin had a look on his face that said he wanted just to evaporate and be anywhere but there. I thought the women on this show had “if looks could kill " eyes, but the way Smitty was eyeing up Martin looked like he was measuring him for a casket. The brown stuff is about to hit the whirly thing, folks!
