Welcome to the Beyond the Gates Daily Y.A.P.P. (Your After-Program Ponderings) for a quick — and by that, I mean you’re already halfway done — recap of the most amazing or what-the-heck-did-we-just-watch moments on today’s episode. Let’s get to it:
What Happened on Beyond the Gates

Jacob is unloading his car when he looks outside. What do his eyes see? Marcel, his no-good partner, was talking to Joey, and then Joey handed him one of those rectangular yellow envelopes. If you have watched The Sopranos, you know what they hold. Cash. So this big shot partner of his is taking cash payments from crooked Joey, which is much we know already, but earlier, when Marcel met Joey in some shady part of town, Marcel told Joey it was a dangerous neighborhood. Joey agreed but said, “Good thing I have the police to protect me.” Jacob went to his father, the Chief of Police, again and told him what he saw, that Marcel took payment from Joey. Elon took his son to a quiet corner and told him the truth: Joey was an informant, and they were using a suspected crook to catch a known crook.

The money was marked and could be used as evidence. Jacob felt a lot better after that. Then we saw Elon take Marcel aside and growl at him, saying that now, twice, Jacob had seen him taking cash and that his career was on the line. Jacob was too wholesome to ignore corruption. If he wanted to take his retirement somewhere lovely and warm, he better be careful handling his business. This got really messy. Joey is NOT an informant working with the police. With Jacob having witnessed it twice, is he now in the firing line? Marcel could possibly tell Joey, and then Jacob or his wife Naomi could be threatened or worse…have to be involved with the corruption as well and take cash to look the other way or provide information or favors.
