The Gates, the first daytime soap to debut in 25 years, begins taping this fall for a targeted January 2025 premiere. While there's been no casting news released about The Gates just yet, the characters fans will get to know are coming to life on the page.

The Gates tape date is set

CBS is ready to open The Gates early next year, ushering in what could be a whole new era and renaissance for soap operas. Created, produced, and penned by longtime soap scribe Michele Val Jean, it will be the first new daytime drama to premiere since 1999, when Passions debuted on NBC.

While not many details are known about which stars will join this new venture produced in conjunction with Procter & Gamble and the NAACP, the show is looking to cast a host of contract characters.

The Gates is set in the DC area and revolves around characters who live in the gated community known as Fairmont Estates. It's slated to begin taping on November 4 in Atlanta.

The characters you'll see on The Gates

According to TV Insider, Patrick is a retired United States Senator who marched for civil rights with Martin Luther King Jr. While he enjoys a life of leisure with his wife, Betty, he's also holding onto a major secret.

Marcus is also a politician who lives in DC proper with his stay-at-home-dad husband and their two adopted children.

Stacy is a luxury real estate agent whose marriage is on the rocks, leading her and her husband to find pleasure elsewhere.

Elizabeth is a paralegal who plans to marry Joseph, the lawyer she works for. However, the person who helped her land the job was Joseph's ex-wife, so tension abounds.

Courtney is dealing with the death of her husband, and it's clear to those around her that something is very wrong with Courtney.

Jillian is a successful young Black attorney who also longs for a singing career, as she inherited her musical talents from her grandmother.

Luis is a Hispanic personal trainer in his 20s, working at the Fairmont Estates Country Club.

Allison is a young Black woman who has been spoiled all her life, and it shows in her persona, according to TV Insider.

Armand is a young photographer in his 30s who doesn't have to work due to the money his late parents left him. In addition to photography, Armand is also a philanthropist.

Cheryl is a successful Black fashion model in her 20s, who dreams of being a designer and not just a model.

Rick is a firefighter in his 30s who has a penchant for taking too many risks. Rick also dreams of settling down with a wife and a family.

David is a police officer in his 30s, who has a habit of getting a little too personally involved in his cases.

Katie is a caring and successful nurse in her 30s, who was raised by a single mother and only wants to do good in the world.

While there is no exact premiere date for The Gates, it is expected to debut sometime in January of 2025.
