At Bill’s (Timon Kyle Durrett) law office, Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) shows that she at least cares about her dad on some level. When his wrist is injured, she scrambles through her purse. He doesn’t know what she’s doing, but she explains, to his surprise, that she’s calling 9-1-1.

However, Naomi’s compassion has its limits. While talking to Hayley (Marquita Goings) at Orphey Genes, she asks if Hayley is really wanting to help. Hayley reaches across the table at their booth to clasp Naomi’s arms and leans in as she implores that she is genuinely interested in being helpful. “Then stay the hell away,” Naomi growls.

Recalling the night he spotted an unsavory deal go down between Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) and Detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy), Jacob tells his father that he knows what he saw: a decorated detective was receiving cash from a suspected criminal. Jacob is stunned and concerned when his dad tells him the opposite of what he thought he would. Elon (Malachi Malik) tells him to go no further with the information. “We’ve got to keep this quiet, okay?” his dad advises him.

Hayley was already uncomfortable when she saw Bill and a client’s wife making comments suggesting they were secretly seeing one another. She later apologized for doubting him but recalled that they had met behind his wife’s back — a fact that the Duprees have reminded Hayley will have a karmic effect one day, maybe sooner than she could imagine.

Hayley is looking for her husband but can’t find him, and his assistant isn’t being too forward with information, even when Hayley demands the information. Is it because Bill is snuggled up with Dani (Karla Mosley) on her couch and looking in one another’s eyes?

Meanwhile, Anita (Tamara Tunie) insists that Bill has too much power — especially over her family. Her husband, Vernon (Clifton Davis), agrees. “We can’t let him pull that trigger, Anita,” he says. What does Bill have on them that could end it all?
