Tamara Tunie was born and raised in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, USA. She is a well known American film, stage, and television actress, director, and producer. She is perhaps best known for her roles as attorney Jessica Griffin on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns and medical examiner Melinda Warner in the NBC police drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Now Tamara leads a strong cast in CBS Soap Opera Beyond the Gates.
The show is filmed in Atlanta, GA. The state has significant tax breaks afforded to the film industry, and with all of the existing infrastructure there, Atlanta has become a popular and cost-effective place to film for the small and the big screens. With so many diverse locations in and around Atlanta, everything another place has can be replicated. For example, the hit show Ozark was set in The Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, but all locations except the Illinois scenes are filmed in Atlanta, GA. The show has made history as the first daytime soap to feature an all-Black cast in 30 years and the first to premiere for CBS since The Bold and the Beautiful in 1987.

On her Instagram page, Tamara said in an interview with The Grio that the show has come out in America when it's especially needed in the current socio-political environment. With so much turmoil around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at the moment, it couldn’t be more poignant to have this new Soap on the air. Currently, you can watch Tamara as Anita Dupree, still reeling from the episode where her daughter, Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley), drew a gun and fired at the bride of her ex, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durett). Anita and her husband, Vernon (Clifton Davis), do their best to steer their family through all manner of drama, crossing more than a few lines in the process. In a very short space of time, this new soap has delivered slaps and punches, golf clubs crashing desks, gunfire at a wedding, and extramarital affairs. Plus the consequences… all you could ask from a soap and more.
