Beyond the Gates has been taping scenes since November in anticipation of its February 24, 2025, premiere on CBS at 2 PM EST. Now, the network has released its first trailer for the new soap opera, giving us a taste of the high-stakes drama to come.
What to expect on Beyond the Gates
As the trailer begins, we see a sleek car enter the gates of the posh community where the main action is set to take place. A formal dinner table is set, with a plaque declaring seating reserved for the Duprees.
As we get ready for all the action that's about to take place, Tamara Tunie's Anita Dupree and Daphnee Duplaix's Nicole Dupree Richardson are greeted by a butler. We'll see soapy love scenes, as well as some angry drama as Karla Mosely's Dani Dupree takes a golden golf club and destroys the contents on the top of a desk.
In a quick succession of scenes, including what appear to be clips from the opening credits, a voice declares that we are about to make history — and indeed we are.
Will Beyond the Gates change the face of soaps?
Beyond the Gates is the first new daytime drama to debut in more than a quarter of a century, with the last one being NBC's Passions in 1999. It is also only the second soap to feature a Black family at the forefront. Generations was the first, but it only aired from 1989 to 1990 and was just a half-hour long. Beyond the Gates will be one hour long and in direct competition with ABC's General Hospital in many markets.
Beyond the Gates was created by veteran soap scribe Michele Val Jean, whose various daytime writing credits include GH, Santa Barbara, and The Bold and the Beautiful. Val Jean will serve as executive producer of the soap, as well as co-head writer with former GH writer Bob Guza. Ron Carlivati, who recently finished a head writing stint at Days of our Lives, has landed a gig as a breakdown writer.
Produced in conjunction with the NAACP and P&G studios, Beyond the Gates takes place in the posh, gated community of Fairmont Crest in suburban Washington, D.C. Some of the action will also take place amidst a political backdrop, which is always a rich source of soapy drama on and off camera.
