Fans of Beyond the Gates have been wondering what the big secret is that Martin has been holding, but new casting may shed some light on the mystery.
Jason Vendryes joins Beyond the Gates
It was announced today that Jason Vendryes will be joining the cast of Beyond the Gates, and his character will affect Martin and Vernon.
On Beyond the Gates, Martin (Brandon Claybon) has a dark secret, one so volatile that it could wreck his career and put the brakes on his presidential aspirations. Not only that, this secret even has Vernon (Clifton Davis) and Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie) scared. The secret has a tight lid on it — the only other person who knows is lawyer Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durett). We have been led to believe that Bill was part of a cover-up, but now, as a family outcast, he can’t be trusted.
According to Deadline, Jason Vendryes will begin a recurring role as Kenny, with his episodes first airing in May. His role will have him observing Martin and Vernon, but no one knows what this guy wants. Ready to speculate with me? In one of Martin's nightmare flashbacks, we saw a stopped car at night and there were the sounds of pleading and then a violent beating. A tire iron then falls to the asphalt. Was it an apparent road rage incident where Martin killed someone? Maybe…Bill recently used the word “overkill” to Martin and the guy looked like he had seen a ghost. If Martin killed someone, then Kenny, watching from a distance, could be a reporter chasing down the truth, or a brother or even a bestie bent on getting to the bottom of a murder of his loved one. This is what we as fans have been waiting on: Beyond the Gates getting back to the other big scandal in the show's short history. What exactly happened that night — and just how deep do the Duprees owe Bill Hamilton for making it all go away?
Jason Vendryes currently plays the role of Agent Slomkowski in the series Ruthless on BET and can be seen starring opposite Blair Underwood, Shameik Moore, and Paris Jackson in the film One Spoon of Chocolate.
